I’m glad Taika Waititi won. I’ve loved everything he’s done and I think it’s well deserved. Everything else I didn’t have much of an opinion on.

I sorta watched it on and off. Some random thought:

* Quentin Tarantino is overrated and his movie got too many nominations IMO.

* Lupita should have gotten a best actress nomination for Us. That character took a LOT of work (since she played two parts) and it was done perfectly/so intensely Come to think of it Us couldn’t also gotten a nomination for director, cinemetography or soundtrack/score as well! Totally snubbed.

* Gonna have to watch Parasite, it looks really good

socalgirl1689 :  Same with PP nattywed :  on her first and last thoughts. I also only watched parts of it, but I LOVED Kristen Wiig and Maya Rudolph’s little skit/speech it was hilarious. Also thought Chris Rock and Stave Martin were funny together. I have seen Marriage Story and wished it would have gotten more recognition then it did.

socalgirl1689 :  Yea, I am curious about Parasite. Have you seen any of the other ones that were nominated? I want to watch Harriet Tubman and the Irishman.

nattywed :   socalgirl1689 :   Kendrao :  Parasite was really, really good and this is coming from someone who doesn’t usually like thrillers or dark comedies. I was glad that they won.

I want to watch Harriet, the Irishman, and Little Women (meant to see this one in theaters but haven’t had the time).

Key takeaways:

Need to watch Parasite

Why the hell is QT relevant? His movies are so overrated – especially this last one. I feel like it’s Hollywood’s chance to partake in it’s own self-absorbed, clap-on-the-back wankfest. Same reason La La Land won so much a few years ago.

Eminem? Lol. Who expected that! Sick performance though. Except that one point when he put his mic to the audience to sing a lyric which indicated to me he kind of forgot it was the Oscars not the O2 Arena.

People need to stop clapping during the In Memoriam segment. It’s awkward for those behind the scenes unknowns and really detracted from Billie’s performance, who’s music/voice I’m obsessed with.

Kristen Wiig and Maya Rudolph are weird.

Not many other thoughts tbh.

nattywed :  Horror films seldom garner nominations. I thought Toni Collette was robbed last year for her perfirmance in Hereditary. I liked Us, but it wasn’t fleshed out well. Great performances in good but not great films will often go ignored, sadly.

I was so happy that Parasite got so many wins. Also Bong Joon Ho is just adorable.

I watched almost all of the Best Picture films (still need to watch Jojo Rabbit and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood), and my favorites were Parasite, Marriage Story, then 1917.

I think the only win that made me raise an eyebrow was the Best Original Song to Elton John. I thought the performance by Cynthia Erivo was stunning!!

I’m thrilled Parasite won! I’ve been an obsessive fan of South Korean cinema since the 90s, and whenever I tell people they always look at me like I’m crazy. I’m hoping this publicity will encourage more people to watch South Korean movies, there’s some amazing films to experience!
