Fun thread!

I started talking about wanting to be a doctor in grade school, and it stuck — will be matching for residency in March and graduating from medical school in May! ☺️

Congratulations on your Police Sciences degree! That’s amazing! 🙂

When I was younger I wanted to be a paramedic, and I didn’t venture too far off and became a nurse 🙂 It took some time after high school for me to figure that out though! So here I am at 25 just starting my nursing career 🙂

I wanted to be a doctor. Like to the point that I would watch surgeries on tv (thinking back – what kind of cable subscription did we have that there was channel airing hours of surgeries???) and I sat in on medical school classes in middle school. However, I spontaneously developed a severe phobia of bloody injuries complete with panic attacks and all in high school. That combined with the realization that being a doctor means your choices decide whether someone lives or dies was enough to make me completely switch gears. I’m an accountant now.

this is such a fun thread!

when I was 10, I wanted to be a jockey because I loved horses. I don’t think I had ever actually ridden one or taken care of one, but regardless that was my career aspiration. Right around then I started growing like a weed and by the time I was 12, I was already 5’8″ ….. and I knew that professional jockeys were small and light, so I had to nix that idea.

After that I wanted to be a writer. I pictured myself living in this lovely house with windows that overlooked the ocean. I would sit up in my office and write the great Canadian novel while I felt the breeze from the window. Sigh…… That said, I never actually pursued that as a career choice. Though I still love to read and write now, I heard the term ‘starving artist’ and that made me too scared to even try.

After that, I actually did become a vocational counselor and then  a school psychologist. I still write a lot of reports for work, but now I’m typically in the basement. With a space heater. And lots of coffee. Not the romantic life of a writer that I had originally envisioned 🙂

I wanted to be a secretary (because I like typing), a nun (because of sister act), a librarian (so I could read all the time), and an engineer (because a lot of the fiction I read is sci-fi and robots are the best)

Currently a computer science researcher working on AI (who sings along to musicals at my desk). Pretty consistent.

Vetrinarian, national park ranger, dog trainer, and now I’m a chemical analyst with a degree in environmental science. I think I actually would enjoy working in the vet field, but I know that I don’t have the stamina to go to school that long. Looking back now I should have just gotten an associates degree instead of my bachelors and worked as a vet tech, I’d be making about the same amount as I am now and the job is easily mobile. My FI’s job is turning out to be moving us fairly often (not a bad thing for us), but it is hard to find a new lab everytime we move.

I would still love to be a park ranger, but that’s one of those jobs you have to move for which isn’t feasible for us. However the long term plan is for me to work part time at a state park or something once we settle down and Fiance is making more money.

I’ll play!!

When I was in the 6th grade I decided I wanted to be a dentist. I was a strange kid. Then in high school I really wanted to play football. I did the research and even found the lingerie football league and thought it was so cool. Fast forward several years, I’m certainly not playing football but I am currently on the tail end of my dental school education haha. Looks like 6th grade me got it right 🙂

Veterinarian when I was 3 years old, up until I went to college for it! My other job choice was a Hairstylist.

Funny how life works…I ended up dropping out of Vet school, went back for Hairstyling and Makeup Artistry, graduated, worked in the field, realized there’s no money in it/hard to make a living here/hated salon environments (I do it on the side still).

So I went back to school for Advertising, work in the field now, HATE it more then anything, and I am planning to return to school next year to be an Educational Assistant (in demand here) with the goal of a College Professor, who owns their own wedding planning business in the summer.
