First thread! Woo!
My fiance and I have been looking for photographers in Manitoba, and we’ve found a particular photographer whose style we really like. It also happens that she’s on the cheaper end of things, which is great for us, as we’re working on a smaller budget. However, I was interested to see some of the differences in what wedding packages include.
For example, the package we’re looking at is $2000, includes the one photographer for the entire day, with 300+ edited shots on disc (I’m forgetting the terminology here, but we’re free to print whatever we’d like without asking permission from the photographer) and an engagement session with around 60 photos; no prints or a second photographer. I recently received a callback from another photographer who offers the exact same package, but with 150 more pictures total, asking for $2500.
I guess what I’m most interested in is, firstly, does the $2k pricetag sound like a reasonable price for what we would be getting if we do choose to go with the photographer we like, and secondly, what in general comes or came included with your various photography packages around that price point?

Well ours is $3600, but our photographer also offers an 8 hour package (ours is 12) with the same options for $2800.
It includes an engagement photo session, all full quality edited pictures on a disc, website for ordering/showing guests, travel within the city and rehearsal attendance.

So the difference is $500? Go with the one whose photos you love more – I had photographer regret because I chose a cheaper one at first.

@MrsRevolutionize: the photographer we will most likely go with is $2850. That includea all day coverage, second photographer, engagement session, online gallery with ALL photos edited And in high resolution, wedding album (30 pages), same day slideshow, editiand for all photos, and retouching for portraits plus any prints. It’s more on the front end vs some others we found, but it iincludes everything. With other packages, the cost to print would habe been outrageous.

Mine cost $2,200 and includes:
photographer plus her assistant for 9 hours of coverage
approximately 1,600 pictures on a DVD with our own copyright
press-printed wedding book (I think it’s like 30 pictures)

I think you’ll appreciate more photos. 300 photos spread out over the day isn’t very much variety or coverage. I’d either try and negotiate more photos from the cheaper photog or go with the more expensive one that gives you 50% more photos for only $500 more.

- Wedding: June 2013 - Upstate NY
Mine was $2400 but we did a “cash” deal, and I think my awesome photog honestly gave me a huge discount
- NO e-session (my sister did it)
- the rights to all my prints- this was so key! I printed everything off for $.05 per print on Snapfish!! They actually came out really well!
- 10 hours with him
- lighting assitant
- 1,000 edited/ retouched photos on the DVD (literally. Every single one of them is good)
His packages run $3,400 for what he gave us now.
If you want to see the quality of my pics, I’m obnoxious about posting them in recaps

Just under $2,000 but due to the $100 travel fee and getting a room for the night it’s a bit over
• 8-9 hours of coverage
• Two Photographers
• Unlimited Photography
• Engagement Session (on location or in studio) with 2, 8×10 prints
• Proofing for 6 months in an online password protected gallery
• Printing Copyrights to all High Resolution Images on CD
• 11 x 14 Portrait of choice from your wedding day

- engagement shoot with edited images on dvd
- boudoir shoot with edited images on dvd
- unlimited all day wedding with 2 photographers
- 1000 edited images on dvd
- reception slideshow
- $200 print credit
- print release of all images and an online album.
My photographer recently raised her pricing though (I booked her a year ago), so I think this package is now $2800.

For $2800, we’re getting two photographers for 6 hours coverage, fully edited digital copies of all photos (they estimated about 800-1000 images) in both high res (for prints) and low res (to post online), printing rights and an engagement session with two locations and edited digital copies of all photos.
If we want to add an album (which we’re deciding on later), it will be another $1200.
Given how talented our photographers are–and the average cost of photography in our area–we got a deal.

Wow! I thought I was getting a deal, but everyone’s photography packages sound amazing. I’ll definitely be looking into getting more photos than the basic 300, considering the advice here. Thanks so much for the feedback!

Price or what is in a package means nothing unless you see the quality of work that is being doNE. don’t be so quick to decide others are getting such a great ” deal” before you see the work they are getting!
