I’d like to ask for some help! I am having trouble finding a dress for my mom to wear for my wedding day. My Mother-In-Law already purchased her dress, a purple qipao. We live in Chicago and there tailor in Chinatown that can make her a qipao $200-300. However, that tailor mostly makes qipaos for brides and therefore most of her fabric is red and pink. She does not have a selection of dark colors. I want her to look pretty, and yet not to over shine my red/gold qipao.
Can you provide me pictures of what your mom wore and where I can find it online?
Appreciate any direction I can get!

preface that i’m not living in the US.
most tailors will source for fabric for an additional cost. alternatively, maybe you could go with your mom to buy some fabric yourselves and bring it to the tailor.

spbee: Thanks. The tailor in our chinatown didn’t have a great selection of fabric for mothers as most of her selection is either really bright (red and pink that the bride would wear) or too dark of colors. My one cousin suggested we look at Aliexpress. We’ll see what happens. They do sell some already made ones in some stores in chinatown but they are most likely overpriced. My mother told me they didn’t let her take pictures, which I though was very strange.

I’m in Montreal, Canada and was lucky to find an excellent tailor who made my qipao (lace and silk for $750CAD).
My mom did not want to spend that much on a dress so she chose a western style evening gown. Here’s a photo of the gown for reference. My mom’s gown was in pale grey.

Thanks for everyone’s help. I ended up getting this beutiful purple cheongsam for my mother from Aliexpress. I was hesitant at first since this was my first purchase on that website. I provided them my mother’s measurements and they were able to tailor it exactly to what we wanted for only $10 additional.
