Our one year anniversary is coming up on May 14th (I can’t believe it has already been a year)! I’m pretty excited about what I’ve got planned for my Darling Husband. 🙂
I was trying to stick to the “traditional” idea of getting a paper gift for our first anniversary, so I bought us tickets to go see the Dave Matthews Band at the Gorge Ampitheater in Washington. He’s been wanting to see them forever, and we’re both pretty big fans. I reserved a hotel room for the weekend and I’ve planned out a kind of road trip/adventure for us (since he says he gets tired of being the one to make all the plans).
I’m also scrapbooking a bunch of pictures of our previous adventures together and each page has a line from the DMB song “You and Me” on it…and in the back of the book, I’m tucking the tickets, a map of the road trip I’ve planned, and the hotel reservation info. I’m pretty stoked about giving it to him…I hope he likes it!
What did you/do you plan to get your SO for your anniversaries? Do you try to stick to the “traditional” gifts, or do you just go with whatever floats your boat? I just found this list of gifts according to years, and some of the later ones seem like they’ll be really hard to stick to (year 6 I’ll buy him Skittles, year 8 lacy or silky underroos?!?!?!? Umm…or not)
ETA: That table did not copy the way I thought it would…bear with me while I try to fix it!!

Usually we exchange cards and then give some kind of a gift, but not at all related to the lists up above. For our first anniversary dating he gave me a japanese maple tree that was also 1 year old. He said it will grow with us as we grow old together.
This year will be our first anniversary since getting married though so I love the idea of getting him a small bonsai tree to keep with the 1st year tree idea.

I love the idea of using a line of a favorite song on each page of a scrap book.
I’m totally going to use that in the future!
I completely forgot about buying him a gift. We’re planning a trip for our anniversary (5/28! woot!) so maybe that’s enough expense.

We ordered the digital-only package from our photographer, so I think our first anniversary gift to each other will be ordering an album from our wedding photos. It fits with the paper theme.

- Wedding: March 2012 - Pelican Grand Beach Resort
I think we will probably do something paper-based, but maybe not specifically stationary. Books would be a nice take on paper. We still have lots of time to think about this though.

Uhm, that goth list looks kind of awesome.
We haven’t done any gift giving yet, but this thread is making me think and that is a good thing. I like the modern list more than the traditional one over all, but Darling Husband and I have never owned a clock and I don’t exactly see us starting to.
I’ll probably do a painting (or buy him a print of one he likes) and a love letter.
I loved your gift idea, OP! So sweet.

Our 1st year anniversary is coming up in June. Though should be interesting. Between my very first mothers day this year, to Darling Husband birthday a week before our anniversary, our anniversay than DH’s first fathers day…
Am thinking of going the traditional route for our anniversary but not really sure what to get him.

Ours is coming in June and I think I will take an awesome print that Darling Husband has had for a couple years now and get it framed…which fits in perfectly with the paper anniversary.

Our anniversary present to each other is a vacation to New Orleans.

Awww… I love the Gorge in George! That’ll be so fun and I love the idea of your scrapbook. What a creative and fun idea!
We just had our anniversary last week. For our paper gifts, I found a print on Etsy that was perfect for him and symbolic of both our wedding and our last name. For me, he drew a certificate that was good for $50 worth of books. It was sweet. I didn’t realize my husband could draw and the certificate turned out really good!

I accidentally stuck with the paper gift theme. I bought tickets to see Bruce Springstein and this print (You are the best thing was our first dance song)

@mrs_pugetsound: Awesome 1st anniversary gift!! It shows a lot of thought and creativity.
I was hoping to have a full time job by now and more money. I wanted to get him a gift certificate for a 4X4 driving school and a long weekend trip to Sedona so he could cash in the certificate. But I just don’t have the money for it. So I’m leaning towards maybe making him a certificate for a future (when we have the money) trip to Sedona and then most probably buying him a book.

@LGenz: That is an awesome print!! I think I might need to get something like that for my Husband. Where did you get it?

I really don’t know. I’ve never been much a gift person in my life – I don’t give gifts unless I know the recipient expects one or if I find something that immediately resonates with me as “______ will LOVE this!” – I just don’t like the idea of giving a gift just because tradition dictates so. I never ask for gifts either and Darling Husband is the same way.
We’ll probably just make sure to spend quality time with eachother on our anniversary day. Gifts aren’t really in the picture, at least not yet.

We decided we aren’t going to get each other gifts – we’ve never done that for our dating anniversaries, Valentine’s Day, etc. For those days we usually do a special dinner, which is what we’ll end up doing for our anniversary. I’ve also been thinking it would be nice to take a little weekend trip. Of course, we’ve barely been married for two months, so we’ll have some time to think about it.
