My Fiance and I are having a small-ish wedding with 100 of our close family members and friends. We aren’t big dancers, so aside from the traditional first dances, we won’t be having dancing. I do want the guests to be entertained, though.
I’ve gotten lots of good ideas from the boards: For the kids, have a game table, and different things such as having a place for guests to leave advice and wishes and a photo booth.
My family is pretty big on karaoking, I have a ton of fun memories from our karaoking nights…The majority of our guests will be my family and our mutual friends so I was thinking that maybe towards the end after the older guests had left, we could bring out some karaoking?
What do you think, too tacky?
(We aren’t serving alcohol)

Karaoke sounds like so much fun!! I think if you and your fiance enjoy it, and you have such great memories of doing it with your family in the past, why not? I love that it’d be going against the ‘traditional’ and making your wedding your own. I’d LOVE to go to a karaoke wedding! And you can totally do it in a way that isn’t tacky! Go for it 🙂

Not tacky at all… I went to a wedding with karaoke in May and it was SO much fun!

That would be such fun! You and your FH could open it with a “first song” and then, cause your family are big into it, “mother-son song”, “father-daughter song”. It could be great fun!

I think this sounds like a great fit for your friends and family. I know a lot of people are kind of intimidated by kareoke, but if your family already loves it, then I say go for it!

I think that sounds like a lot of fun! I would just make sure that you find out ahead of time if your guests would be interested in participating…I know that some people really are averse to the thought of singing in front of people. However, it sounds like your family would be up for it! I think that would just be sooo cool!

Thank you all for the positive comments!
I was a little worried about it seeming tacky, but I think we will wait til after the grandparents and older guests have left…
Has anyone actually been to a karaoke wedding? How did it go?

I haven’t been to a karaoke wedding, but if you love it and your family will participate, I’m sure you will all have a great time.

Not a fan. I don’t even like it when there is no wedding around, and most folks I know tend to agree. Many people think they are the best singers in the world but are actually very painful to listen to and it tends to be awkward afterward when they are being congratulated. A large number of people will not participate unless they are quite drunk. Skip it and save that for a night when you’re out at local bar on your own time.
But if your family loves it, then go for it.

Sounds like fun – especially if it’s something that your family does frequently!

I personally hate karaoke, but it sounds like you guys would be into it and have a great time with it. I don’t think it’s tacky, especially if you wait till the old folks leave. Enjoy!
