Glad you asked this. I am only 23 weeks, but have been experiencing the symptoms and was wondering if it was BH. Hope to hear from the bees!

I’ve definitely had some where my belly feels like it has tightened up and if I put my hand against it it gets really hard for a few seconds before relaxing and getting squishy again.  The first few times I had them, there wasn’t a lot of pain associated with it, but as time has gone on, they have coincided with some menstrual-like pain more often.  Lately I have started having more menstrual-like pains without the tightening feeling, usually along with some level of back pain, but i’m not sure if those are contractions too or not.  They usually go away when I sit/lay down, so I haven’t been concerned about it so far.

I’ve been having BH contractions for weeks.  My belly always gets really hard and I feel like I really have to pee, which goes away when the contraction is over.  Lately though, I’ve also been feeling menstrual-cramp-like pain without the hardening of the uterus, and I don’t know what that is.  I don’t think they’re contractions because I think the uterus always tightens during a contraction.  I’m at 36 weeks, how far along are you?

I also wonder what they feel like. I have had the feeling that @BlueMirrorEye: mentioned, but I always thought that was the baby moving closer to my belly. It always felt like a hard body part that was poking out. Is that really a Bh contraction and I have been mistaking it for baby’s body parts? LOL!

@MARIE901:  Ha, I had thought that too for a long time!  I only really know about the tightening feeling because of the time i felt it really consistently for 5 or so hours (every 2-3 mins for 30 seconds or so) and I went to L&D to be monitored/get a shot to stop them.  The monitors showed that I really was contracting, so that was pretty good confirmation.  The mentrual-like pains I have no idea about, though.   If you figure it out @mrsmjm, I’d love to know!

@BlueMirrorEye:  OMG! So the hard feeling that I thought was baby’s head or booty was really a contraction? That is funny. Well, I at least know my body is gearing up for what it’s supposed to be doing.

Yes, I’ve been getting these too and noticing them a lot more frequently now. My stomach gets really hard up at the top of the uterus. It’s not painful but sometimes I do have a crampy pain there as well – which I was told could be my stomach or gallbladder. Good times.

I get a light crampy pain when I get them too.  When I feel that I touch my stomach and it is hard either all across the whole thing, or occasionally just on the right side.  I’m 22 1/2 weeks and have been getting them many times a day since 18 weeks.  Doctor confirmed that is what they are but they aren’t regular or affecting my cervix so they are ok.  Not pleasant though.

Sometimes when Peanut is kicking up a storm, it triggers one.

@MARIE901:  I think that if it is only in one spot, it could be the baby’s head or booty.  If it short (less than 2 minutes) and more of a whole area or the whole tummy, it likely is a contraction.

@MARIE901:  I always assumed this was a his butt or back or something too! usually it only happens on one side of my belly, like he is balled up there.

@totheislnds:  Mine too! One side of my belly will be lop-sided and hard and then it feels like I have to go to the restroom to tinkle when it happens. I’m still confused as to if it’s a BH contraction or baby. Mixed answers, lol!

MARIE901: I’ve read lots of places that they can be only on one side.
