So it’s cocktail hour, but you’re not having one? or are you having one after this hour?

We are doing cocktails with small hors dourves (nothing filling).  We are also setting up video stations instead of a guest book (there will be 4) and we hired another photog to take some guest pics.  I have alotted 30 min only for these pics because after all this planning I want to have a DAMN good time.  So 20 min after the ceremony everyone will start filtering in for dinner etc. We are having 160ppl.

I have a similar problem. I am setting up my bar prior to ceremony. Mine is at an antebellum home so the ceremony and reception is in the backyard. Since my food is all set up inside ‘buffet style” we will serve wine and go ahead and have our cake cutting while it is being set up. Not thrilled with it but I love the venue so it is my sacrifice

I have read some ZANY ideas for this awkward time. I am lucky enough that while at the same place, in different rooms. The reception is being set up while the ceremony is going on, and during the dinner the ceremony site is turned into a dance area / bar / place for cutting the cake and coffee. I am still offering my guests a candy bar while they are waiting for dinner. I am going to have someone pester my guests to sign the guest book during this time as well. Not much for entertainment but people can manage for an hour with snacks and family members. Do you have an outdoor area that people could hang out in? LIke a garden / courtyard / park? If so maybe you could put up an area for an outdoor game. I have heard some people just give litle kids disposable cameras for this period because kids running around laughing is cute and fun to watch. If the venue is a normal place for weddings, ask the coordinator what usually happens. You could have some sort of small game / raffle going on outside or in the restaurant so people don’t feel packed in and bored.
