My fiancé and I are having a small ceremony and then we are having a big backyard party the weekend after to celebrate. What should I wear to this party? My future mother in law said that I should wear my wedding dress, but is that right? I was thinking of wearing another nice white dress.

I’m getting married in my fiancé’s country (where we both live) and then having a celebration in my home country 6 months later. My current plan (which might change!) is to get a separate skirt and top rather than a dress. Then I’ll wear the same top and a shorter (more dance-friendly!) skirt for the celebration.
I think it’s up to you – if you want another excuse to wear your wedding dress, go for it. If you’d rather wear something simpler, no problem either.

malian : It really depends on what the two different settings are like. If you are wearing a ball gown for your ceremony, but having a backyard BBQ, well that doesn’t really work well.
If you’re wearing a simple sheath dress and having a tented party, that totally works.
If you don’t want to wear your dress again, buy a second one that fits the occassion! It’s totally up to you. Some brides wear two dresses for ceremony and reception in the same day, so I wouldn’t worry about it if you want a second dress.
