Elliot – I like this name best of the choices, seems friendly, caring, and sweet.
Roland – No associations really, maybe strong?
Alton – Makes me think of Alton Brown and he annoys me a lot. Very quirky?

Roland reminds me of Beowulf.

Elliot- every time I hear this name I can only hear it in E.T’s voice…. sorry. And I was traumatized my E.T when I was little so I am not a fan of this name.
Roland- There was a place at the college I went to for undergrad called Roland Hall and it was big and round and everything in it was round and the joke between my friends and I was that whoever it was named after must have been round. And we called in Rollin’ Hall.
Alton- reminds me of the guy from Clueless who was a jerk.
Sorry! I have a lot of bad associations with a lot of names! Honestly, of the three I like Alton the best!

@sept22insf: I think Raleigh sounds more like a girl’s name. But a really cool girl’s name.

@sept22insf: for me, they are all a bit “old money” But it depends on the person. I love Alton Brown, and don’t think he has an old sounding name. Elliot is a bit effeminate, to me, though I know it’s a boy’s name. Roland seems like the red herron romantic interest in a Jane Austen novel.
But I really don’t judge people by their names. I change my perception of a name based on the person.

Elliott: a particularly shy, awkward boy. I like it for a girl.
Roland: A stiff, rich guy swinging a pocket watch.
Afton: My cousin’s gorgeous wife. I like it.

1) Elliott – great name
2) Roland – an older man in a smoking jacket (or, rol-o’s, but i’m pmsing so mmmm rol-o’s)
3) Alton Brown.
first things that came to mind

I think Elliot is a nice name. Alton is okay but I’m not a huge fan of Roland (it makes me think of the nickname “Roly” for some reason and then I picture a roly poly kid lol). I associate the name Raleigh with the bicycle company.
A name that I like that is somewhat similar to Roland is Rohan. It’s on my list of potential names for a boy although I’m pretty sure DH has already vetoed it.

@sept22insf: Well, Elliott makes me think of someone who is bright, intelligent, well educated, scientific, refined, wealthy, and handsome.
I have a friend who has a brother named Roland, and he is a fun, friendly, charismatic, good-looking musician, so we’ll go with that.
Alton sounds tall, muscular, popular, entrepreneurial, a bit brooding and mysterious, handsome, and also wealthy.

I think of Elliot as a kind intelligent person. Roland seems like an older man… Alton also makes me think of the guy from the Real World who is good looking and very atletic

Elliott – smart, sensitive, weedy. Likely heavily skewed by Elliott Smith.
Roland – gentle, sweet, awkward. The Song of Roland.
Alton – country

I like the name Elliott, but it makes me think of Brendan Fraser’s character in the movie Bedazzled – nice and sweet, but geeky and awkward (nothing wrong with any of those qualities, btw).
Roland – A head butler in a mansion, or something of the like.
Alton – Not sure why, but all I can think of is the dog food Alpo…

just In My Humble Opinion – not meant to offend or anything but i think they are all too “ponsy” – too old fashioned uptight old man sort of names. i like Elliott the most of all of them but even that reminds me of the word Idiot. just not a fan of any, sorry! 🙁

1) Elliot – SCRUBS. Brainy.
2) Roland – I know 2 Rolands and they all get shorten to Rollie and then I think .. puff puff …
3) Alton – Iron Chef.

Elliott – Love it, but makes me think of the girl from Scrubs.
Roland – Makes me think sophisticated and gentleman
Alton – brainy, and I also think of the chef
