It is a reminder. Eventually you learn to hold the abs in during exercising. Just do your best.

Oh, I teach group fitness and say this all the time! It means you should activate the muscles in your core. Think about lightly drawing your belly button in towards your spine just enough to feel your muscle engage (not too much so that your stomach hallows in below your ribcage; that’s bad).

The easiest way to think about it is to pretend that someone is about to punch you in the stomach.  The way you pull your stomach in has your abs fully engaged.  Just try to keep them that way throughout the workout 🙂

I always thought I kept mine tight during exercise. However, one day I worked out in a sports bra and I could totally see that I was NOT keeping it tight. Wearing a short shirt/sports bra makes you look at your stomach to see if you are pulling it in!
