    I don’t call them anything….more like a “hey…you!”

    I call my in-laws by their first names, but my husband uses the Chinese words for mom and dad to call mine. It would be a huge disrespect to refer to your seniors by name in my culture.

    I call them by Mr & Mrs. Last Name. Both of my parents refer to their in-laws that way so I do the same.

    @mtbikelover:  I only have a Father-In-Law and I call him mostly by his name, but sometimes call him dad, too.

    I tried calling my in laws mom and dad because they requested it. I tried a couple times and couldn’t really bring myself to doing it because I feel like it’s reserved for my own parents. It’s a cultural thing for Chinese people to do so, and we never address elders by their first name. However there are titles for mil and fil in Chinese that I could use and maybe try. I don’t talk to them often because they live in the other side of the country.

    DH never address my parents as anything either lol. And my parents are pretty chill so they don’t mind but they poke fun of him for that.

    @teaberrie:  +1.

    My in-laws are Vietnamese, and I think if I ever called them by their first names, they’d have a heart attack.

    We use both. I call his mom by her first name sometimes and sometimes I call her Mom. We aren’t close with his dad at all so I call him and DH’s stepmom by their first names.

    He calls my parents by their first names most of the time but sometimes will call them Mom and Pops lol

    @donna_saur:  date twins and age twins (both us and Fiance !) I also call them mr and mrs. (first letter of last name) for us I think a huge part of the reason is when I met them i was 17 and I was always taught it was impolite to call adults by their first names.  If we had started dating in our 20’s im sure I would call them by their first name.

    I call them Mom and Dad.  It was awkward at first,  but now I love it.  They treat me like a daughter and they really feel like a second set of parents to me. It’s funny sometimes if we’re all in the same place, and I say “Mom”, both of them will look at me to respond.

    I also grew up hearing my Mom call her Mother-In-Law “Ma” and I always loved that she did that.

    Do we mean while talking to them, or about them? I call my SO’s mother “Susan” to her face, but when discussing her, I tend to refer to her as “Soozan,” in a disparaging tone… >.>;

    The dad is a great guy though, so no snark there. But only MY parents get the titles of Mum and Dad.

    Both are divorced so I just call them and their new partners by their names. Gary (FIL) and Jo (SMIL), Margaret (MIL) and Tony (SFIL). Occasionally I’ll call Gary dad. He calls me his daughter though and I feel so loved everytime he wraps me into a huge hug. 🙂
