Ok so, sometimes I find myself tripping over and sputtering for words when it comes to addressing my soon to be in laws, calling them by their first name doesn’t seem right, nor does “mom” “dad”, I’ve called them “mom, dad” when speaking to them before, and though I don’t mind it (ie- it didn’t feel THAT weird) I have no idea if they are ok with it? They dont seem to flinch or be weirded out though…lol! Sily, I know, right??

I call my in-laws by their first names, and my husband calls my parents by their first names. It works well for us and is pretty natural to do.
Have you ever noticed how your soon-to-be in-laws refer to THEIR in-laws? That might give you an indicator of what they’re comfortable with.

i try to avoid saying their names… they’ve never said that i could call them by their first names, and i feel awkward saying Mrs. X so i just really avoid saying any kind of name…. LOL

I use their first names. I could never, ever, ever call my in-laws mom and dad.

@sleepyhead22: My husband called my parents Mr. and Mrs. up until we got married. Then he switched over. 🙂

Both my husband and I actively avoid calling eachothers parents anything at all – “your mom” etc. When forced, we both use their first names.

Both Fiance and I both call each other’s parents by their first names, I know I will never call his parents mom and dad.
It was a very long time before I even started using their first names, for years I just avoided saying anything.

I call them by their first names, but I mostly avoid calling them anything at all.

I call them by their first names but pretty much try not to call them anything. Just “please pass the salt” or “do you need more towels in the guest bath?” in their general direction And hope they realize I’m speaking to them.

I say “your mom” or “—-‘s mom” He calls my parents “Mr & Mrs”

I just call my future inlaws by their first names because…well…they have never complained about me doing it. I am laughing at the responses where Bees try to refrain from calling them anything LOL

I avoid saying their names really. I just look them in the eye before I start talking….haha, kind of ridiculous, I know. I just don’t know what I should call them….
