I would say both are solitaires.  Ring 1 is more of a classic solitaire and ring 2 a more modern/current one.

I always consider a ring with ONE stone a solitaire. If you look at the major retailers online ( like Blue Nile) you can look at settings types. Solitaires and all metal and rings like #2 are under settings with sidestones.

A solitare is single, one…not additional stones flanking it.

I can’t see how a solitaire could be considered any other then..well..a solitary stone

I consider mine which looks like the second one to be a solitaire. I guess just because the focal point is the center stone and the side stones are so narrow. I always wondered about that though!

I always considered a solitare to be one stone, with nothing on the band.

I consider both to be solitaires (mine resembles the second). One stone being the focal point.

I always thought a solitaire was just one diamond. No side diamonds on the band. But I see so many people call their ring a solitaire when it looks like ring two.

So I will say ring one is a solitaire & then I call ring two a solitaire with a diamond band.

Solitaire setting – by definition – is a single mounted stone with no embellishments.

I think ring 1 is a solitaire but since there’s not really a short name for “solitaire with side stones,” we just call them the same thing.

I also think a solitaire is one stone with no other stones on the band.

Ring one is a solitaire. I have heard some ppl refer to styles like ring two as  ‘fancy solitaires’.

I’ve been asking this myself a lot! I always thought a solitaire was ring 1, but on the boards here I see lots of girls posting ring 2 when the OP is askign to see solitaires so I was always confused. Mine is more like ring 2, but I never consider it a solitare.
