I drive an automatic. I have never driven a manual. Before the age of 30, I want to learn to drive a manual (I’m 26 on Wednesday). FH drives an automatic as well, and has NO desire to drive a manual.

I drive an automatic, FI’s last car was an automatic but he can drive manual. We both can operate motorcycles, 99% of which are manual, but I find it way easier to learn than a car. I’m content with only knowing how to drive an automatic car 🙂
We both drive automatic and prefer it. My parents both drive both so I grew up around manual cars and automatic caravans 😉 I can drive standard but I find it stressful and am not very good at it haha
So this driving manual is driving stick? That’s how I know to call it lol. I certainly don’t know how and can probably count on one hand the number of times I’ve been in a manual car.
Automatic
I drive stick or auto, DH only drives auto although he knows the theory behind stick because he has a motorcycle, but has only driven a stick shift car once or twice in his life. I learned on a stick, and I’ve had stick shift cars before, so I really don’t care either way, but DH greatly prefers auto.
Both our everyday cars are Altimas, which have CVT engines which are nice and smooth and incredibly efficient, so right now we both have automatics. That was the only reason I bought an automatic this time around. I have more fun driving stick. 🙂
@DeathByDesign: How is the learning process coming along? I learned to drive on a standard…at the time it was my only option. It wasn’t pretty though! I’m alright with it now. My car is an automatic, but it didn’t bother me whether it would be a standard or automatic…I bought it from the dealership used and that’s what was available. My Fiance drives standard though and he prefers it.
We both drive manual. Everytime I drive my parents’ car (it’s automatic) I feel like something is missing, which is odd because when I learned to drive at 16, I was taught on an automatic. When my SO and I started dating (7.5 years ago), he taught me manual so I could use his car. I really like the control I have when driving manual and cannot see myself going back to an automatic.
I drive a sports car so manual for me. Vroom Vroom baby!
@DeathByDesign: I learnt to drive in an automatic, and had limited experience when I bought my first manual car. But there’s no better way to learn when you don’t have anything else to drive. I think leaning in an auto is good, because it gets you used to everything – accelerator, brake, indicators etc. there’s so much going on when you first start to drive!
I love driving a manual and wouldn’t buy anything but. I feel like I have all the control. And it’s a valuable thing to learn in case you have to drive another car. A lot of our company cars are manual.
