- Wedding: September 2014 - Lodge
Hello Bees I need some inspiration. I’m trying to figure out what to splurge on and what to save on at our reception. As a guest what do you feel is most important at a wedding. I want to make sure I can save $ on the things that are nice to have but not all that important and really splurge on the things that will make my guests happy and my wedding memorable.
You can choose more than one answer so I can tier my money from most important to least important.
Thank you SOOO much. We’re on a budget, paying for this ourselves and would like to keep our wedding at $10,000 or less.

I would save on decor and favors. They’re nice, but they’re just extras and not really needed.

Everyone liked our cake the most but our menu was pretty great as well. We had BBQ from a local favorite restaurant and it was a hit, as well as the cakes and the favors. And I know people don’t like koozies as favors but our guests really liked ours. Probably mostly because the majority of the guests were on my husbands side and had the same last name, but they all seemed to like them and most of the guests took a few of them home. Glad my mom got twice as many as we needed.
We didn’t have alcohol at our wedding or reception since it was at a church but no guests cared, we did meet them downtown for drinks though on our way to our honeymoon. I think the guests liked the fact that they could go drinking downtown instead of being stuck in a room drinking.
As a guest, none of those would make me have a good or bad time. What really influences the wedding and the time the guests have is how personal it is. If it’s full of fun and laughter, no matter the drinks favors or cake, they are going to have a good time.
Our koozies for refrence
The palm tree and moon is our state symbol. We also got these in pink as well

As long as your reception has fun music people will enjoy themselves. Music!!

I clicked on ambiance, but I don’t mean like…the decorations. I think the overall feel of the wedding is extremely important. If the bride is relaxed, and cares more about the MEANING of the event than the details, the wedding is awesome. If the bride is uptight, and gets mad about all the things that go “wrong”, the wedding sucks. No matter if the food is AWESOME and the drinks are delicious and everything looks great — an uptight bride makes the whole thing suck.

Music and food. But mostly music!

In my opinion, the most important things are good food, free drinks (beer, wine and soda… No need for a full open bar) and physical comfort. (Chairs for everyone, no blasting music, a comfortable temperature.) As long as I’ve got those things, I’m happy!

I would say the edibles are most important to me as a guest. I can’t remember the music or decor from the last few weddings I’ve been to, but I do remember the stand-out appetizer buffet at one and the amazing cake my cousin had.

I would say food, drinks and music are what I remember from weddings I’ve attended. I really don’t need any take home favors and you can save some money by doing your own decorations or going with less expensive options. There should be some dessert, but it doesn’t have to be an elaborately decorated cake–I’d be just fine if you served me sheet cake from Sam’s club. 🙂

I honestly just want to have fun when I go to a wedding.
I love food and I love high end restaurants but as long as the food at a wedding is edible, I’m happy. I love cake and booze but as long as they’re offered, I’m happy.

Food, drinks, and music. I would put food and drinks at the top as a lot can be forgiven if there is free booze.

@NurseMandie: I like food (including cake) and dancing. I’d could really do without favors.
