@NurseMandie: In order of priority for me it would be:
Music (for me, these three come very close together; I think they’re all important)
Cake (in terms of taste; don’t really care what it looks like as long as it tastes good!)
Favours (not fussed about these at all)

Food is important at the time, but what i remember most is the dancing and having a good time. But I’ve never been to a wedding that had bad food… or a wedding with no alcohol. Those things are probably pretty important to me.

Food, drinks and music. Least important for me are the favors.

@NurseMandie: For me it goes
Good music, food and then alcohol
I’m having a budget wedding and not doing favors (no one keeps them usually) I’m also not spending a lot on centerpieces so that I can have an open bar with great music and food

For me it’s food and music. I went to my cousin’s wedding at Christmas and her food was awesome, but the music was terrible. We still had a good time, and like I said, the food was really really good, but the whole reception was just kind of awkward. The dance floor was in a different room than the tables and half the time we didn’t know when something was going to happen like the garter/bouquet tosses or the cake cutting (which was also on the dance floor).

Least important to me would be the favors and the cake. For the cake, I mean how it looks. People are going to remember how it tastes, but I wouldn’t splurge on some huge fancy decorated cake (unless that’s what you want!).
Think about what is most important to you as the bride!! Dancing (music), food, and alcohol are my top 3.

Good food is top priority to me, and then good music! Drinks come in third, because they’re nice but I never drink a lot at weddings.

@NurseMandie: Never skimp on the food and entertainment. Even if you need to cut out decor completely (well, maybe not completely) do not serve sub par food in order to have more wiggle room in your budget for flowers. Favors are optional, and cake is just cake. I don’t remember what the cake looked like at any wedding I’ve ever been to.

- Wedding: September 2014 - Lodge
Thanks everyone. You basically all confirmed my suspicions. We’re going to go pretty basic on decor I think, in season stuff like pumpkins, mason jars w candles and a few flowers here and there for centerpieces. Since we are saving money on our photographer and videographer I’m thinking we can splurge on the DJ. Our venue only allows beer, wine and champagne for alcoholic beverages so we’ll save money there as well.
I’m wanting a really great tasting cake but its going to probably look really simple. Just your basic tier with buttercream frosting, no decor other than our cake topper.
I just get really worked up over some of the prices I see and think “OMG we’re going to be broke. How can we pay for all this?”

It was really close, but I picked menu over alcohol because I’ve been to dry weddings with excellent food…like excellent to the point that I didn’t even notice there was no alcohol until way later. Likewise, I’ve been to weddings where the food was average and I quickly began to wonder “ok, where’s the liquor?”

We are working on that budget, too. We splurged on a DJ, because if the DJ is bad- no one has fun. I want to dance, and am hoping I’m not the only one on the dance floor. I think (as most people have said) music, food, and alcohol are most important. Good luck with your wedding!

@NurseMandie: Good food, drink and music are most important in my opinion. The rest is just extras. I’d say to skimp on favours, anything that’s not edible will probably be left behind or accepted with a smile and then thrown in the trash later.

As a guest, what’s most important to me: free drinks, good food, good music.
Couldn’t care less about favors.
Ambience/decor is very important to me as a bride, but not so much as a guest.
Cake is good, but with enough drinks, I couldn’t care less about the cake.

Food (menu & cake), music, drinks & ambiance.

Good food & drinks are most important to me.
