- Wedding: January 2012
One of FI’s closest friends (let’s call him K) is getting married 2 weeks after us, on the other side of the world. We were originally planning on going, but have decided against it as it’s going to cost us $5k, we’ll have to rush/delay our honeymoon, won’t get much time with Out of Town guests coming to our wedding, and will have to take leave without pay.
Fiance was originally feeling very guilty about the decision but is feeling better as he realises his friend pretty much never makes an effort to contact him or catch up with him. There’s still some guilt though so we are planning to get them a nice present. We have set a budget of $250.
The girl K is marrying lives on the other side of the world, but is currently in town for a visit. We have not told them yet about cancelling our trip, and are thinking of telling them together, and giving them their present then.
They are not going to register (it’s against their culture). We obviously can’t get them anything big and bulky, and don’t want to just give cash, and are stuck for other ideas. We wanted to send them on a weekend away, but as she’s only here for a few weeks, it’s unlikely they’ll have the time. The only other thing we’ve come up with so far is a voucher to a fancy restaurant.
Anyone have other ideas?
