My parents used to do this when I was a kid, they would get a mason jar, smash a few bulbs of garlic and put them in vinegar. For all intensive purposes it was very simple pickling. A few weeks ago they came by and dropped of SO many delicious foods. The vinegar gets this really really strong garlic infusion. I would just take a small bowl pour that out with the garlic and dip fried chicken, or one of my other fave Filipino dishes, lechon kawali. (Fried pork belly – OMG).

I fell in love with them and will eat them over anything…I am glad your kids eat them the are full of iron and builds up the blood. What made me start was the fact that I am anemic and I couldnt stand the smell of the iron pills. So I eat beets at least twice a week.

Oh and let me add that on my list:
I ABSOUTELY LOVE SCRAPPLE. (I’m also from Pennsylvania) Someone that knows how to cook it properly, it can be an epic amazing thing.

People seem to either love it or hate it, but I LOVE candy corn!

I love fried chicken livers! That’s about the weirdest thing I eat until I go to a new restaurant and *HAVE TO* order the strangest thing on the menu. I love trying new foods and I’ll eat anything that is considered outside the box.
I also love pork rines, brussel sprouts, wendy’s fries dipped in frostys, sushi (could eat til I die!), and as Tibbets mentioned…I dip my pizza crust in soda…but only when NO ONE is looking and I’m only admitting here because we are almost anonymous.
On a daily basis, I eat A LOT of veggie burgers. I’m no where near a vegetarian. I just love the way they taste, they are a quick, simple lunch, and are healthy. I get made fun of by my coworkers but I don’t know what the big deal is about a silly veggie burger! And I still love ramen noodles. I’m not poor or in college…they are just the bomb.com

Sauerkraut anyone? My dad used to force us to eat it, but once I was in my mid twneties I realized I craved it. No one else I know (besides my father) can even stand the smell.

Pickled ginger, pickled eggs, pickled beets. I LOVE pickled ginger even though its super astringent. I also eat ginger chews and candied ginger all the time.
Raw or smoked fish. I love sashimi and smoked salmon.
I also love cream cheese and jam on toast! also cream cheese and smoked salmon on toast. YUM.
