I am in the middle of deciding on invitations and I like to price them out. I was pricing some out and it asked me if I wanted to include an RSVP card. I opted yes since I know I have to. The RSVP card asks the people what they would like for their entree. Then it asked me if I wanted to purchase reception invites…are those necessary? The invitation will say “reception to follow” and the RSVP card asks their choice. Is another piece of paper really necessary? The reception is in a different location.

I voted yes, simply because the reception is located somewhere other than where the ceremony is taking place. You should let your guests know where the reception is going to be held. There’s a chance that you can fit this onto your invitation itself, but if you can’t than I think you should include an additional insert.

@jesssamesssa: I say no. Our ceremony and reception are in two different places, and we only included our invitation to the ceremony with “reception to follow” and our RSVP card. We also included the address for our wedding website with the invitation and any other information relevant to the ceremony or reception will be on the website. I think it’s perfectly okay to only include the basics in the invite if you will also have a website with other details.

I think if your invite says “reception to follow” you should have something that indicates the location/directions to the second location, what time everything starts, etc.

If your reception is in a different spot I think you should have a reception invite card as well. I wouldn’t count on everyone making it to the website to figure out when/where the reception is if that is the only place you put the information.

Thank ladies, I had seen people put that info on programs before but I am not sure if everyone attending the ceremony will be attending the reception since it might be an open ceremony with a notice in the church bulletin. Ok, two invites it is. Some will get 3, since I have to do rehearsal dinner invites too!!

Voted yes since the reception is at a different location.

This is funny for me because we included all the information and pretty much everyone still asks us for all the info…like what’s the address, the date, what’s our address etc etc etc. It’s on the invite peeps! LOL!!!
