@applebeee:  I don’t change anything during the TWW, but to be honest, I don’t drink, smoke, or eat sushi anyway. Well, I take that back, I used to take Advil for my headaches, but I switched to Tylenol because it’s safer to take while pregnant. I do this in case I get pregnant and don’t know it. Otherwise, I’m in the “drink til it’s pink” club. I’ve been TTC for 14 months now, and the TWW is bad enough. I couldn’t imagine giving up things I love two weeks out of every month for a maybe. If your worry is greater than the pleasure you get from the food/activity, then by all means, refrain during the TWW.

I did switch to decaf coffee in the mornings, but that’s because I didn’t want to have to go through caffeine withdrawals at the same time I was dealing with morning sickness.

@applebeee:  but… i love cheese. i grew up in wisconsin. and feta is on our shopping list EVERY week. this is not fair.

but… yeah. anything that i was going to cut out for TWW, i cut out entirely. i don’t want to torture myself by going back and forth. alcohol (i don’t drink anyway, so no problem) and caffeine mostly.

@rosworms:  I know!! Devastating isn’t it! I think it’s to do with Listeria?

Pretty sure it’s limited to banning unpasteurized cheeses only. They say soft cheeses to make it easier to remember.

Enjoy the 2ww and worry about the rules after you get the BFP.

@twofortheshow:  Ditto to switching to Tylenol and decaf! Other than that I enjoy my sushi fix and a few drinks. 9 months is long enough!

@rosworms:  Many soft cheeses in the us are pasteurized, like the crumbled feta I buy…you don’t have to give up all cheese, just check the label!

The first few months we were TTC I abstained from everything non-pregnancy friendly in the TWW: alcohol, caffeine, sushi, etc. It made getting a BFN every month more crushing. I decided I can’t put my life on hold for two weeks every month and just recently this cycle am behaving normally during the TWW – As soon as I see my BFP I will cut out all the stuff that is not good for preggo ladies, but otherwise – why suffer if it could, God forbid, take us a really long time to get pregnant? Especially since those two weeks can’t affect the baby even if you are pregnant, from what I have read.

I have been weaning myself off of things that I know I can’t cut out cold turkey… mostly caffeine, and I don’t really drink alcohol so that’s not a big concern for me.

Otherwise I’ve been taking the OPPOSITE approach! =P We’re not super serious about TTC just yet but there have been a few months where the timing *might* have lead to a BFP so I would binge on sushi (it’s my favorite food) during the TWW. This might be the last time I can eat it for NINE MONTHS!!!! I have zero guilt about this. If it’s medically safe, then I don’t believe in putting uneccessary restrictions on myself. =D

@applebeee:  I didn’t change anything during the 2WW. My doctor also said not to worry about it.

@rosworms:  Honestly, the soft cheese thing is not much of a thing. What you are supposed to avoid, out of an abundance of caution, are soft cheeses made with unpasteurized milk (any hard cheese is fine). They say this because unpasteurized soft cheese can carry listeria, which is a bacteria that can pass through the placenta and hurt the baby (most other food-borne illnesses don’t pass through the placenta). But in the US, unpasteurized cheese is actually hard to find. So just check labels to be asfe, but don’t worry about it. And even if you DID accidentally eat unpasteurized cheese, your chances of getting listeria from it are really slim.
