As for the weight issue a lot of pps have talked about, I judge a little bit when overweight people claim to eat well and in moderation. I am NOT SAYING I judge them for being overweight, but I guess I’m more skeptical about what they mean by “eating well.” Most Americans, including thin ones, are very ignorant about nutrition and I have seen many people eat a horrible diet that they think is healthy. However, there are a lot of factors that go into weight gain. If you guys want to totally freak out you should look up “obesogens”. This is a class of chemicals that are now everywhere because of our use of, for instance, certain pesticides. There is a growing body of evidence that they mess with fetal development and greatly increase the rate of fat growth later in life.
Also, you don’t have to be a conspiracy nut (like myself) to be suspicious that the processed-food giants are doing something to the food to make you love it and that those chemical changes may affect how and how much we gain weight.
I judge women who obsess about getting down to some really tiny size or weight and claim that it is for health and energy. Uh, no, half the time, it is so you can be a smaller size than your friends or to prove a point to some relative who referred to you as chubby 5 years ago.
Example: 1 tsp sugar in tea was like 50 cals or something, and they were drinking 6 cups of tea a day and noti counting it.
It was also pretty interesting with this one woman who ate salad for lunch every day, but had put on 4 stone over 4 years. She was eating JUST OVER her limit, and it was the added bits of bacon and dressings on her salads. She didn’t realise, but the fact that she had that little bit extra every single day for 4 years meant she put on weight, but she hadn’t realised because it had been a really gradual process and she’d always eaten the same.
I find this SO fascinating. I wish it were more publicly known, as I really believe it would make people more aware of what they were consuming on a daily basis.
I have decided that in the spirit of non judgment Sunday eating, I’m going to bake up a tray of pizza rolls and watch “Hop” with my daughter so I can enjoy me some James Marsden. YUM.
