Hello Bees,
I’m into the second week of some serious dieting and I’d love to mix up my snacks a bit! With only 8 weeks to my final dress fitting and about 12 weeks to my wedding I’m really trying to keep my diet balanced, but also low-calorie and low-fat. With the weather being cold I’m finding myself at a loss for some good healthy snacks!
Here is an example of what my daily diet looks like:
Breakfast: Protien shake (sometimes with fresh fruit or veggies)
Morning Snack: Either a handful of nuts, apple sauce, or yogurt
Lunch: Whole wheat wrap with lean deli meat or chicken breast, side of soup
Afternoon Snack: Either veggies and yogurt dip, yogurt, side of soup, or fruit
Dinner: Usually grilled chicken, turkey, or fish with long grain brown rice, stuffed peppers, or steamed veggies on the side
As you can see my menu options are pretty boring right now. I’d love it if you could share with me some healthy ideas. Please feel free to share your daily meal plans as well. Right now I’m struggling to find healthy snacks that make me feel full and warm other than soup and tea. Thanks!
As a side note I should mention that I only eat poultry, eggs, and some fish in the meat category. No red meat or pork for me 🙂

low fat pretzels and some yogurt! I also chop up fresh fruit sometimes and throw it in the yogurt. Healthy snack that fills me up!
Also Dr. Oz recently did a show on some healthy alternatives to the foods we normally eat, that are healthier, but still fill you up, like pasta and dip!

I constantly have the munchies so now I just bring a big bag of grapes with me and slowly munch on them throughout the day.
I only eat chicken and fish too – for the most part. It’s important to switch up what you’re eating so you don’t get bored. Like Monday will be salmon night, Tuesday will be honey chicken, Wednesday will be tilapia, Thursday will be lemon chicken, etc. I’m always trying to mix up new recipes because I get bored with food easily.
Sometimes if I am bored of eating a turkey sandwich for lunch I’ll make a grilled chicken salad.
Lately I’ve been on a red pepper dipped in hummus kick.

Check out Skinny Taste, I love everything I’ve made off there! It’s my new favourite site. She has a whole snack recipe section, I’m sure you’d find some awesome stuff there!

Right now I’m eating:
Breakfast: Cereal with milk, coffee
Snack: Apple & Cheese stick or 25 almonds or 49 pistachios.
Lunch: PB&J or Soup or Soup and Salad or leftovers from dinner the previous night.
Snack: Carrots & cucumbers with Ranch dressing.
Dinner: I make all sorts of things! Usually a lean meat with some sort of whole wheat carb and veggies. I use Cooking Light recipes A LOT!
Other snacks I like to eat are: raisins, a banana, peach, pear, ants on a log, peanut butter on a banana, peanuts, trail mix, beef jerkey, turkey pepperoni, a small piece of dark chocolate.
Hope this helps!!

@TinyTina: I second the veggies and hummus!
@twist: I second the edamame beans! Our local Costco used to sell these frozen microwavable pouches of them and they discontinued em–so sad.
@mrs.peters.to.be: I know what you mean about getting bored with all the healthy, bland food. I like to bring hard boiled eggs to work and just eat the whites with a little S+P (ok, tons of pepper). Also, I’m not a vegetarian, but I like all the Morningstar stuff too, especially the fake sausage patties (mixed in to an egg white omelette with some sriracha) and the chipotle black bean burgers (serve with salsa and guacamole). Oatmeal with skim milk is good if you want something warm and filling too. And coffee!

@jenewitt: Seriously, every single thing I have made from there is AWESOME. I made her turkey meatballs (but used chicken instead because DH couldn’t find ground turkey for whatever reason) and he said it was one of his favourite meals ever. We’re pretty much working our way through her Top Twenty of 2010 and enjoying everything there. Tonight I’m going to try out her apple crisp made with agave nectar. Mmmmm! Someone else here on WB recommended her site, and I’ve been hooked since!

Western Bagel is a bagel company that not only has bagel locations, they also sell their bagels bagged in many grocery stores. They have a high fiber bagel that is sold is many stores – eat one of these – about 150 calories and couple it with low fat cream cheese. While it’s great to just eat protein, the MOST FILLING thing you can eat is something HIGH IN FIBER. This leaves you full for far longer and it also helps clean out your system (putting it nicely) since fiber cannot be processed into your body, it is pooped out, which also helps grab onto other things to dispell as well.
