I was thinking about this today, and I was wondering how much other people spend on vacations. I generally spend about 5,000 a year. This year is more about $9,000. I usually do at least 1 vacation to the carribean and a couple 2-4 day land vacations. What do you bees think your average is?

we go to the carribean once a year, rent a cottage for a week w/ friends, another couple small trips too… total for the two of us….5k.

@Tropicalbride: Great question! Vacations are a high priority for us. We probably go on a trip every month. I already had two vacations just this month!
However, my definition of a vacation may vary from another person. Not all require plane tickets, nor are they all inclusive tropical type vacations either. It would be a long weekend of backpacking in the mountains, visiting a national park, renting a condo at a ski resort with friends, flying out to a wedding but making a week of it, etc.
I’d say we spend about $3000 total between flights, gas, hotels, camping, food, etc.

We spend about $100 on food and booze when we go camping with his family, and then later in the year we take another vacation that usually costs around $1500-$2000.

We probably spend about 5k per year, give or take some.

Usually between $1,000-2,000.
We only do one somewhat bigger trip a year. Two years ago it was Disney with his family, last year our honeymoon (which was more than the above number), this year was New Orleans.

@Tropicalbride: Same here! we usually do a trip to the carribean every year with a few weekend trips thrown in throught the rest of the year. I’d say we spend a total of 4k-7k

We spend around 8K-10K. We do two out of the country vacations: one in the winter, one in the summer.
Then we go on several domestic 3 day weekend trips a year too.
In fact we leave on Sat for our summer vacation to the South of France!!

Well since we went on a cruise for our honeymoon were going to try to do one every other year now (that’s $5000) . We also go to the beach a few times a summer and do day trips to NYC, amusement parks and music festivals. I guess that equals up to about $5000 as well. We’ll either be do one or the other from now on. 🙂

We don’t really have an average. Last year we went on 2 bigger vacations (a week in Vegas where we did a lot of sightseeing/shopping/ate at nice restaurants, then just over a week in Florida where we went to an NFL game and did the whole Disney/Sea World thing). We probably spent $8000 last year? But we didn’t go on vacation at all the year before. This year we have 3 vacations planned, a long weeked road trip to go to a friend’s wedding, a trip down to Minneapolis for shopping and again to go to an NFL game. Then we’re going to Toronto for the Grey Cup (Canadian equvalent of the Super Bowl). In case you can’t tell, Fiance and I like football… With our Grey Cup trip we were also planning on taking the train to Ottawa and spending some time there after, but then we couldn’t get tickets to the Grey Cup and will have to pay way more for after market tickets or do a tour package. Plus doing the trip to Minneapolis, I wouldn’t have enough time to take off to do Ottawa.

We go on cruises every winter and multiple trips to Chicago throughout the year to see friends. I’d say we spend around $6000/year. Unfortunately, we won’t be going on a cruise this winter bc of the wedding but we are wanting to go to Europe in 2014 for 2-3 weeks!

- Wedding: October 2011 - Bed & Breakfast
We don’t really vacation. We just paid for our own wedding, bought a house, and we’re staring down DS’ college tuition bills in 4 years. Plus we’d like to retire eventually. So yeah, vacation is a foreign concept in our life. We didn’t even get to go on a honeymoon. Le sigh.

We can’t afford to take vacations. :
