@mf10252014:  It can be done very nicely! I was a Bridesmaid or Best Man in my old college roomies wedding a few years ago & that’s what she did. She setup a facebook group with just her & the bridesmaids, let us talk it out amongst ourselves whether we would all prefer short or long (she wanted to keep the length consistent). Once that was decided she picked her color (apple red) and sent us a link to the David’s Bridla site with the short dresses av. in her color & we picked our own from there & posted a picture in the group for the other girls to see. It worked out great, each bridesmaid had her own style but it still looked cohesive.

@mf10252014:  i like the idea of Bridesmaid or Best Man in different dresses, but for this to mesh well, I think they should buy the dress from the same designer/brnad and the dresses should have the same material

Great idea! I would have done it but I only have 2 girls, I think you need 3+ for mismatched dresses. Your 8 is perfect! Just stick with the same type of fabric though, or else it could look bad.

Nope, that’s what I did!  Each girl was able to pick a dress that really flattered their figure.

This can work, or fail depending on how you do it.  For me, it is only successful if you pick one designer (so the colors and fabrics match perfectly), one fabric, and one length.  If you choose a color you like from Bill Levkoff or Dessy or a designer like that, they are tons and tons of options even within a single fabric and length!

I love mismatched bridesmaid dresses. As long as you have a guideline (here  = same color, different shapes) it will look harmonious.

@mf10252014:  Not sure I know what you mean.. I think most bridesmaids wear the same color (or variation of) so your request wouldn’t be fussy at all.

If you are asking about whether the color chapamgne is too close to ivory/white, well, I probably wouldn’t do it, but I’m sure it will still be beautiful!

@mf10252014:  I did it, and I think the girls really appreciated being able to pick what they want….

@mf10252014:  Mine are wearing a mish-mash of dresses lol.

Maid/Matron of Honor: short fitted dress in stiff, ivory fabric, with thick straps/one shoulder

2 adult bridesmaids: floor-length, strapless, emerald green chiffon Dessy dress.

1 adult bridesmaid: as above, but a different style number with a different neckline and detailing

Junior bridesmaid: dress of her choice, provided it’s ivory.

I think it’ll work. The reason the 3 in the Dessy dresses are having different styles is their height and body shape; two really suited one style, whereas the third looked much better in the other style. I wanted them all to look their best, hence letting them have slightly different styles.

I think it looks great when you have a large number of BMs in the same colour but different styles, though I think it’s good to have something that ties them together eg the same type of fabric. I also think it depends on the formality of the day; I think it tends to work best for a more relaxed, rustic/country, casual wedding, and less well for a formal, black-tie affair.

I love the idea of different dresses same color… mostly because you still have that uniformity while complementing all the different shapes of your bridesmaids
