I said maybe because it depends what you want to do with the house. If it’s the right choice for you to live with, go for it! But if you are doing it up to sell in the near future perhaps not.

samibee:  I have them downstairs. They’re so easy to clean and if you like the look of a carpet you could always put down an accent rug.

Personally I like laminate. Easy to clean and doesn’t scratch easy, plus it looks nice.

samibee:  My concern with using it downstairs in any home is the chance of it getting damp. Laminate will swell at the edges if water gets on it.

We replaced the laminate in our condo with hardwood.

My house has hardwoods but I would have MUCH preferred laminate because I have pets. I love the idea of hardwoods but you can see every scratch.

I think it depends on the area and neighborhood in which you live. Personally, I’m not a huge fan, but I don’t hate them either. If most of the homes in your neighborhood have hard wood then it may not be the best choice but otherwise, I think they look good.

We have laminate hardwood in most of the rooms of our house that was installed by the previous owners. They had 2 dogs, so it makes sense. We much prefer it to carpet, and it looks great. Like PPs said, it’s super easy to clean. Most people are surprised when we tell them it’s laminate.

I have 2 houses and one has Bruce laminate (installed over concrete) and one has Bruce hardwood. Visually, I cannot tell the difference but the maintenance on the REAL hardwood is 2-3 times worse than the maintenance on the laminate. When I put the house with the laminate up for sale, that flooring was considered a plus over carpet, not a negative. It didn’t sell but that had nothing to do with the flooring…lol.
