This is what my girls are wearing, so obviously I love black! There’s actually TONS of black in my wedding beyond the Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses.

I love them! Especially paired with a bride in white. Such a nice contrast.

I was a Maid/Matron of Honor in my parents’ wedding and wore black. The other Bridesmaid or Best Man did too, but they were different, hers was a beaded top and a long satin skirt and mine was a lace corset and a long chiffon (?) skirt. It looked awesome for pictures!

I was Maid/Matron of Honor in a wedding with black bridesmaid dresses. We each wore a LBD, red heels, pearls, and had red roses bouquets- looked great and not gothic at all! Accessories make all the difference! Though I would rather wear a black dress I can wear again if I’m paying for it- I don’t think I could wear that one again.

My Bridesmaid or Best Man is wearing black.

It’ll be this dress, but in black.

I love the idea of black bridesmaid dresses! I was going back and forth between black and dark purple. In the end for me, dark purple won, but i love love love black dresses. very formal!

I really like them. Black was one of our colors so I totally could have done them but my mom hates black bridesmaid dresses. My step-sister had them and my mom was not pleased. With my mother, I know to pick my battles haha. And she’s footing the majority of the wedding bill. Besides, I didn’t want my wedding to be a repeat of my step-sister’s since our colors happen to be the same.

I really like them, they are classy and elegant. I remember though the first family wedding I attended in the 1990s where a cousin had black bridesmaid dresses. Everyone commented on it like “oh how modern” , “that interesting”, “must be the new thing”…Sounds like your mom may still be stuck in the era of black not being appropriate for weddings. It certainly is now and I think you should have what you want at your wedding. I’d try to explain it’s quite common now as a bridesmaid color and maybe show some pictures of weddings online where they have black dresses and a similar vibe. Sometimes seeing what it would look like all together can really make a difference.

My BM’s are in black – I let them pick out any LBD they wanted, from whatever store they want.

Honestly, I chose the color (and let them pick the dress) because I didn’t want them to look like BMs during the reception/party – who really wants to stick out like a sore thumb??

But your girls will look like BMs, even if they’re in black – they’re all dressed the same!! Who would do that at a wedding BUT a bridesmaid?

I don’t personally like black dresses for bridesmaids. But I picked out black invitations, so clearly i’m not too traditional. My mom was so concerned that the invitations were black haha.

@SnowInApril:  i love them.  they are very tasteful.  i had black too.

ask your mother this:  “if black bm dresses are such a big no no, then why do all bridal salons offer so many of them?”  times have changed.

I think black Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses are classy and modern plus the flowers will pop well against the dress! And the girls will more than likely get more use out of it.

I LOVE the black dress that I got from being a bridesmaid! I have worn it once already, am wearing it again this weekend, and quite possibly again in November! After that I just may have exhausted wearing it to the gala events for work…. but I don’t think I will ever get rid of it lol.

They will totally still be able to be identified as bridesmaids, because they will all have such a similar look!

I went to a fall wedding a few years ago and all the bridesmaids were in black and had orange/red flowers. It was LOVELY.

Go for it.
