So Darling Husband and I don’t plan on TTC for another 3 or 4 years but it is still fun to discuss potential baby names. Darling Husband has said that we will leave most of baby naming up to me so long as he can veto names he absolutely hates. Any he doesn’t veto, I’ll be free to choose my favorite! 🙂
So I have 3 girl’s names and 3 boy’s names I like and I’m curious what the Hive thinks about them (I had a forth girl’s name – Adeline, Addie for short – but Darling Husband vetoed that one).
- Miranda Renee
- Courtney Jade
- Hayley Nicole
- Jason David
- Austin Caleb
- Grant Alexander
As reference, our last name starts with an “M”, is 5 letters long, and 2 sylables. I tend to like names that aren’t super popular (avoid the top 25 or so for sure, preferabley lower on the list than that) but are common enough that people will be able to spell and pronounce without problem.
So what do you think of the names I’ve come up with?? Also, feel free to suggest beter middle names if you don’t like these. I always have a harder time with those.
ETA: Also, if you really dislike one of them for some reason, feel free to say so. It won’t hurt my feelings. 🙂

FIL’s name is David. This is DH’s middle name too.
My mom’s middle name is Renee. She goes by this middle name.
Darling Husband would love to name a future son after Jason Heyward (Braves baseball outfielder). He LOVES Braves baseball! Lol! 🙂

I picked miranda renee because I think it sounds very classy and beautiful.
I also picked Grant Alexander because Alexander is one of my FI’s middle name. I like how it sounds. I might take that one from you lol

Of the girl names I think I would go with Haley Jade. Boys are trickier. I like Grant but think it might be getting popular. Trying to come up with a masculine version of Renee made me think of Rhys (or Reece if you prefer). What about Rhys David?
ETA: My last name also starts with a M and is 5 letters, two syllables long so I just used it to test them out. 😉

You do realize that the names you currently like may not be names you’ll like in 3 or 4 years. PLUS, you said you stay away from the “Top 25” lists. What are you going to do if the names you like are on that list in 3 or 4 years???
ex: I originally thought “Damien” was a cute name, but I was talked out of it and I’m glad. My son might be a little “demon” (joking!!! errr…sorta, lol) but I’m glad I didn’t name him that. My daughter’s name is what I was going to name my son if he’d been a girl minus the name my mother wanted (confusing, I know, but true).
Cute names though! But some food for thought. 🙂

@Zinzerena: I watch this boy named Damien and my Fiance always jokes around calling him Demon. I used to like that name but now it isnt my favorite anymore.
@Mrs.KMM: I voted for Miranda Renee. I think that name is classy and not too popular. For the boys name I voted Austin Caleb. I always liked the name Austin but I think it might be rising in popularity.
I think Ryna might be right though. In a few years they might be in the top 25 so you might want to consider that too.

I chose Miranda Renee and Grant Alexander because to me they flow much better than the other ones. And I can see both of them as great names from baby to adult.

@miksje130: LOL! too funny!
My son’s name went from NOWHERE NEAR the top 25 to being on the top 25 for several years. Go figure. My daughter, fortunately, has a VERY unique first name and pretty common middle name. But her initials are VERY unique: I.M.P. 😉 and yes, she looks like a pixie and lives up to the initials! LOL!

@Zinzerena: and @miksje130: Yeah – I realize what I like now may be different from what I like 3-4 years from now (although my taste in names has always stayed pretty consistent). And that they might rise in popularity a bunch between now and then (who knows!). This is just kind of for fun since Darling Husband and I have been talking about it the last few weeks.

I like Miranda Renee, Austin Caleb and Grant Alexander. Jason David seems a little too plain for my taste. And, please don’t hate me for saying this, Courtney Jade and Hayley Nicole sort of sound like pornstar names to me. Lol. Maybe it’s just because of the Playboy bunny Jayde Nicole, but that’s totally what they remind me of!

I have a friend who’s expecting a Miranda in August. 🙂
I think it’s such a pretty name and you don’t hear it that often. I love it!

I feel like Grant is getting too popular. I’m not sure why, but Courtney Jade just doesn’t seem quite right to me as a combo. I think if you really like Jade, Hayley Jade flows better, but of course I don’t know your last name.

@Miss Lilac: Haha! I honestly couldn’t name a single porn star so it certainly isn’t an association that comes to my mind. That just made me laugh though. 🙂
@cannotwait: It currently stands at #155 (and has actually decreased in popularity over the last 10 years). But I agree – of the names I currently like, Grant is probably most likely to grow in popularity.
