Aubrey is the only one I like. All the others sound like they’re trying too hard to be a special snowflake.

First, of your names I like Lincoln, Brody, and possibly Kendrick.

Not so keen on the others and particularly not any of your girl choices, though. That said, name opinions are like noses–everyone has a different one! They’re not my taste of names… they sound a teensy bit ‘teen mom’ to me, which isn’t a style I go for… but if you like them and can agree on them, go for it!

If I were going to offer alternatives on girl names, though, I might suggest:

Briley >>> Briar, Blythe

Cali >>> Calliope, shortened to Callie

Aubrey >>> Audrey (though, having said that, I love Aubrey for a boy), Annabel

Kennedy >>> Everly, Heidi

@MrsN14:

My opinion, so take this with a grain of salt:

Brody (ehh)

Colton (no)

Trenton (like new jersey? no)

Bentley (like on teen mom? no)

Briley (“but riley! bu’riley! b’riley!” definitely no)

Aubrey (for a boy? no. drake the rapper (or kid in the wheel chair from degrassi high) is named aubrey by the way.)

Cali (i know someone who named their yorkie cali. no)

Kennedy (yes for a boy. so overused for a girl.)

Braxton (yes)

Maverick (no)

Lincoln (yes)

Kendrick (yes)

Jackson (yes)

Braeden (i would hate to be the teacher who has to spell that. definitely no)

Beckham (kids would tease for sure. becky? no)

Ones I Hate (sorry): Bentley, Trenton, Briley (I definitely thought this was made up), Cali, Kennedy, Braxton, Maverick, Kendrick, Braeden and Beckham.

I agree with others that Callie is cute but not Cali. Aubrey is okay, but I’d like Audrey better.

Jackson is probably the name I like best of your boy names.

I agree with others that you seem to like very trendy names. Not my personal style, but TETO.

@whoa_its_ash:  +1 Hahaha yes!

Maybe its because magic mike is on tv and im too lazy to search for the remote (all the good parts are over and the movie is just terrible, I swear im not actually watching it)…but lots of these names seem like stripper/stage names for guys and girls.

I would vote for Jackson!  Brody and Bentley remind me of pet names.

Haha I went through this when I was having my daughter, except we didn’t know she was a girl. Funnily enough I’m also 21 and I LOVED the name Lincoln and Braxton. But nobody else did. By the time she was here we had come up with only one boys name. The only opinions that matter are yours and your partners! Although do consider what names can be turned into as jokes or nicknames etc hahaha

@MrsN14:  I like Callie as a nickname and Jackson. I dislike the rest – sorry!

Our top choices – the ones that we agree on – are (girls) Scarlet, Mila, April, Indie and (boys) Max and Leo. We’re not TTC or pregnant, but we’ve both loved these names for the last three years, so I think we’ll end up using them.

Unless, of course, I can convince my SO to love Harrison, Sebastian, Matilda and Genevieve. Which isn’t likely.

The names you are toying with are definitely on trend with going a little outside the usual name box.  I actually like Lincoln and Jackson for boys.  To me, Aubrey is a boys name.  I know its more unisex but I have encountered many boys and never a girl Aubrey.  The rest I just don’t like at all.

One bee made a good point once – she said “think of the name you give your child as if it were on a resume”.  Hiring managers really do filter out resumes according to names, if the experience doesn’t smack them in the face off the page.  I think your age definitely plays a part in your choices (I’m 25).  Don’t share your thoughts with family.  Someone will ALWAYS have something negative to say.

Darling Husband and I have no idea if children are in the cards for us but we have only agreed on a boy’s name – Sebastian (semi trendy, but Im hispanic so its not trendy culturally).  For girls, my family has a tradition of using grandmothes’ names and for us that is Alicia or Evelyn.
