I voted for “depends on the personalities of the guests”. I personally don’t mind weddings without placecards: it would only bother me if I was at a table completely with people I didn’t know and I didn’t get to sit next to my SO, but usually people will sit in pairs and there will be two seats open next to each other as long as you have assigned tables, so that’ll be fine. I’m not having specific placecards, just table numbers, because I have a very social/mingly crowd coming to my wedding.

I think using the frames to have cute quotes in them would be great: they could also work as escort cards to help your guests get to their tables:

Here are some picture frames used as escort cards: they used table names like you considered, but you could certainly use numbers too.

I’m probably going to use table numbers, but I love the idea of table names to incorporate your husband’s hobby: I think that’s a great little touch that wouldn’t be tacky at all.

Or you could stick with numbers (which I personally like because they’re easiest to find) and still have a different fish on each:

i personally like to know where i am sitting at a wedding so i vote for placecards.

i hate looking like i am lost when trying to determine which seats are available and where to go.  it’s like highschool cafeteria all over again.  it is nice to have at least one other person at the table that i know but i have been to numerous weddings where my SO is in the wp and i am at a table with no one i know.  it’s fine.  i am social.

i just used table numbers b/c it was the easiest.

I wouldn’t want to be told exactly which seat I’m supposed to sit in, but I do like having assigned tables. That way people aren’t scrambling to get a seat somewhere, especially if you’re inviting families with children.

I like table assignments but not seat assignments. We are doing a board with escort cards pinned on them, directly people to their table. We are naming each table after a place important to our relationship/places we go a lot – like the dropzone where he skydives, the bar where we met, the hotel where we got engaged, etc. The tables will not be numbered but will have a 5×7 card on an easel with the name of the table and a photo of the two of us at the place the table is named for – the hotel one, for example, will be a photo of the actual engagement moment while the dropzone one will be the photo of us kissing at 14,000 feet which was our Save the Date.

We love to fish so a few of our tables will be named after local lakes that we frequent to fish. That’s how we incorporated the fishing into our table names/numbers.

The table numbers that were shown by Rapunzel/Rapunzel were beautiful. You can do what I like to call “Sophisticated Fishing” decor without it being tacky – Hobby Lobby has a whole section of things to choose from that I used to decorate the foyer in my home. The idea is to keep it simple, classic lines and drawings, minimalist. Even a simple fishing fly on a table card could look beautiful – some of them look like gorgous feathers and could blend in with a beautiful decor. Or another idea I saw was a fishbowl on each table as decoration with a beta fish inside and beautiful floral arrangement above it. You could put something fun on the Escort Card display that says “You’re my favorite catch” perhaps…
