@sasi:  I admire him. It must have taken great courage to do so. However, I really connected with Papa Benny and I’m really going to miss him. He has done so much for the Church (Summorum Pontificum and Anglicanorum Coetibus).

On a lighter note:

“The Pope is really setting a high bar for giving something up for Lent.”

First off, anal theologian comment: it’s theologian not theologist!

But, back on topic, I think it’s an admirable decision. The world is changing so quickly now, moreso than it ever has, and that requires someone that can constantly be on the ball in a way that just isn’t possible for an elderly man with health problems. 50 years ago the Pope’s job could be done by someone like that, but the world has changed and is offering many more challenges to rise to, and that likely requires someone who is both physically and mentally vibrant still. I think he’s doing what’s best for the church he loves, and letting someone more able have the job.

I think it is an increduble humble decision. I mean really- how many politicians would give up all of that power?

I have a feeling that he is growing mentally ill and will not be able to carry on his duties- but that is just my best guess. He continually warned us that he wouldn’t be our Holy Father for long, I was just always hoping he would change his mind! 🙂

I think it was a wise decision – and probably one he felt led to by God.

I think it’s very exciting that we will be getting a new pope – and nice that we won’t have to mourn the death of one at the same time.

@sasi:  Hi Sasi.Great job on your English considering it is not your native language. Re: The pope…Wasn’t there some scandal and some rivalry within the church? I am in New zealand and haven’t caught up with the news much recently. It would be a very demanding, maybe even stressful position, and having health issues wouldn’t make it easy.
