I like it, but I thought it was pronouced with a hard E sound.  What about Ammon?  It’s similar to Eamon, but people may have less difficulty with the spelling/ pronunciation.  I believe it’s of Hewbrew origin.

@KatyElle: Cool, never heard it as a first name.

@smith207: Yup, I have trouble with Evelyn for the same reason! The name I want is Eibhlin. Same pronunciation, different provenance, but Eibhlin is soooo prone to mess-ups with spelling. Then again if I have 2 girls, the other will be called Sadhbh so they can commiserate together! 🙂

And they do say kids with unusual (but not ridiculous) names build more character, or something – maybe it helps them to feel special and unique in a small way from a young age! Could be nonsense either, though!

I love the name Eamon, there is a famous Aussie swimmer called Eamon Sullivan, and all through the Commonwealth games coverage I never heard his name be mispronounced.

Not a big fan of this one, but in general I don’t like names that I have to struggle to pronounce. At first I thought it was a name that ryhmes with semen, and to tell the truth I’m still not sure how to pronounce it. :S

It’s “meh” to me. It’s a fine name, but it’s asking for an entire lifetime of mispronunciation.

@Roux: You beat me to it!  Hot hot hot man – hot hot hot name.

My name is Talia, and when i was growing up it was REALLY unusual – but i must say i loved having a different name! ANd now I work in a school where there are 8 Talias from grade 7-12, I kinda wanna kick all their asses. I never met another Talia until I was in my 20s.

I’m with KatyElle, I think the name she suggested (Egan) is pretty cool!

I’m not too fond of Eemon, I think it’ll be hard to say and spell for most people and when I first read it, I thought it was pronounced “ee-mon” which rhymes with demon. I personally wouldn’t want my child to be named anything close to demon.

I have to say, I dont like it. But when I meet someone in person I hardly ever hear their name and say “ugh I dont like that” so I would just name him what you and your husband want to name him! Many names come with the hardship of being constantly mispronounced, misspelled or made fun of and its fine. My name is Clare and while I love my name and the way I spell it, it is  constantly misspelled. You get over it. If the name feels right for you, thats what should matter.

ETA: I work with a guy named Rojea (Ro-jay) and his name is always pronounced incorrectly but he loves his name anyways.

I really like it, but I’m always on board for a good Irish name! I’ve always wanted Tadhg on my list, but I know that’s definitely asking for mispronounciation for the rest of his life around here!
