Our friends have a child named Eamon. The odd person has trouble pronouncing it… but mostly people like it. I love the name and it suits the kid really well!

    I say go for it.

I voted not sure.  You could do much, much worse (one of my “nephews” is Torin…  and most of his parents’ friends play WoW.  Tauren – giant cow people.  People were toasting “For the Horde!” a lot at his baby shower.  His mom did NOT get it.  I have a second cousin named Link as well.  As in Legend of Zelda.  Intentionally.  I also know a chick named Eowyn.)  And the people I know with regularly mispronounced names LOVE their names.  I just tend to favor more traditional names like James/Jim or William/Will.

The Eamon song artist appears to be a one hit wonder, so I wouldn’t worry about that.

Makes me think of the movie Michael Collins, and how Eamon de Valera was portrayed– kind of duplicitious, at the same time a hero and a passionate leader. I think it’s a nice name, but I’m not sure how I feel about the kid sharing a name with that Eamon. That said– is anyone else going to make the connection? Probably not. Was Eamon de Valera all that awful anyway? Not entirely.

@smith207  I love the name!  But then again, I have a thing for Irish names.  Siobhan is one of my all time favorite girl names but I decided against even mentioning it to my husband as a possibility, because of the issue of a lifetime of mispronounciation.  It’s a tricky situation…

I have a friend who’s son is named Eamon.  Most people figure out the spelling and pronunciation pretty quickly.  If you really love it, I would go for it– despite the challenges.

Many people misspell our daughter’s name (and we used the classic spelling!)

I am really big on naming your child what YOU want to name your child… not based on other people’s reactions to it.

That being said, the name reminds me of the guy who sang that song that goes “F^^^ what I said, it don’t mean S^^^now….” etc. It is such a terrible song, I wouldn’t want other people thinking of that song when they meet my child!

@Natalieh86  Lol, that’s exactly what my first thought was! I would definitely think of that song everytime I heard the name.
