I think it’s really pretty! I’m actually reading that new JK Rowling adult’s book and one of the characters is named Gaia and I thought it was so pretty when I first saw it!

@Rubbs:  The OP said it was very popular in Italy where she lives.  So its not trendy over there and would not have a pronunciation issue.

For some reason, I immediately think of apples.

I think of 2 things- Captain Planet & greek goddess/mother earth. We had a new-age group at my old high school called Daughters of Gaia… So ya, def. new age hippy sounding to me, but then again I’m not in Rome! Lucky lady =)

I’m a huge nerd, and Gaia is used all the times in sci-fi/fantasy for names of planets, etc and is in the title of a bajillion video games. Because I am SO familiar with it, I had no idea that people wouldn’t know how to pronounce it, haha, so I say go for it, especially if you are in Italy where people will know the pronunciation easily.

I would assume it was a Gia, misspelled or Gay-a.

It looks like a name someone would make up now to be different.

But that doesnt mean you shouldn’t use it!! You know the true meaning behind it – so who cares what everyone else thinks.

Not really a huge fan, mostly because it reminds me of those cards you see for sale in gas stations for some online game called Gaia Online…

I’d pronounce it “Guy-a” but it does feel pretty new age-y/hippie to me.  I don’t hate the name itself though.

I read it “Gay-a”. Anyway I think it’s really pretty!

You said, “here in Italy” but then that SO brought up the states and how it would be thought of over there. Where will you be raising the child? If it’s Italy I say yay, if its North America I say nay – just because of bullying. 🙁

It makes me think of the Gaia the Fierce Knight card from Yu-Gi-Oh.

I don’t associate it with anything, but I also don’t really like it.

Pretty! Definitely hippy as many people (especially women) ‘pray’ or bless in the name of Gaia (mother earth)

It’s a pretty name but a lot to live up to. You might not associate it with anything other than the actual name but others will associate it with nature/god/mother earth. If thats cool with you then go for it 🙂
