I was working on my vows since we’re writing our own (hence the offbeat nature, inside jokes, and a song lyric) and I came up with the following (using a few samples of vows as inspiration). I want to know what you think and if I should change anything? I know they’re long, but we made the decision to worry more about content rather than length or anything else. So, let me know what you think. Thanks. 🙂
“In the Universe, there are nine planets (since Pluto will always be a planet to me), 204 countries, 804 islands, seven seas, and six billion people, yet we managed to find each other. (Well, I found you). Not only in a physical sense, but in an emotional one; you have helped me find myself at the same time. Namely, you have taken what I thought was broken in me and restored it – given it new life. You have made me a better person, daughter, sister, and friend. But, perhaps most importantly, you have allowed me to trust and love again. And I have so many reasons to love you.
I love how sweet and genuine you are, my Burnt Marshmallow. I love that you make me laugh and slow dance with me in our kitchen. I love you because you let me have three cats, even though you have a love/hate relationship with them (excluding Icarus, whom I’m fairly certain you secretly love). I love you because you accept me for who I am and you never try to change me. I love you because always entertain my crazy ideas, even if it’s only for a moment. And I love how you make me feel so beautiful, loved, and happy.
I know things won’t always be easy, but I promise that the good times will always outweigh the bad and that it will always be worth it. And I know we won’t always agree on everything, but I will do my best to communicate and compromise with you. Because I know that, together, we can endure all of life’s trials, as they will only make us stronger.
So, I promise that I will always be honest with you and loyal to you. I promise to always laugh with you (and not at you), to comfort you in times of sorrow, and to always listen to what you have to what you have to say with an open mind. I promise to support you in whatever it is you choose to do, to just be there for you, even when I may not know what to say, and to always accept your bear-hugs. I promise to listen to your conspiracy theories without judgment and eye-rolling and to watch documentaries and debate them with you. I promise to not make you sit through reality TV shows with me and to not get mad when you leave dishes on the counter instead of putting them in the sink. I promise to treat you as my best friend because that is what you are: my best friend and the man I plan to spend the rest of my life with. I promise to fight for you and to love you with all that I have. I promise to raise you up when your own wings falter and to be your safe harbor during life’s storms. I promise to always try to be the person you see in me, to be the best parts of me that fit perfectly with the best parts of you. And I promise that if I were given a million, trillion lifetimes, I’d fall in love with you again and again.”
