MrsSparkleBee13:  Watch the video of the ring on the page she linked. There is a big dark area through almost the whole rotation of the stone which comes from a bad shallow cut on an oval. It’s not part of the bow tie because it’s not even – and the darkness is being able to see the setting through the stone. Too bad, because it’s a nice ring with a pretty meh center.

Soloudinhere15:  What does “having a big window” mean? Sorry, this bee is from Sweden. I have read it a couple of times on this board and I can’t figure out what you mean by that. 🙂

pess:  A window is an area of a stone that is cut in such a way that you can see straight through the stone and no light is reflected back. There’s some stones where it’s okay, like it’s pretty common in fancy color diamonds, but it’s generally not a good trait and is a mark of a bad cut.

Anyway, loved that ring! Very pretty! It’s nice with a little finger coverage, even though I looove tiny, delicate jewels too. Ah, I love a lot of different styles!

Too much halo, too little diamond.

Soloudinhere15:  Okey! I think I get it now, thanks for your reply! But what about emeralds etc, doesn’t they have “big windows”? Or are they maybe cut in a way so that you can’t look right through them even though they have those big, clear areas?

pess:  A good step cut will have minimal windowing and more facets. However, a dark facet isn’t the same thing as a window where you can actually see through the stone from some angles. All diamonds have facets that turn on and off as you turn the stone – that’s what makes them sparkle.

It’s hard to explain what is a window and what is a “tilt window” resulting from a steep crown (like is seen in antique cut stones) but seeing through the stone when you’re holding it at a normal viewing angle is generally not good.

I had a double oval halo ring custom made and it was sooooooo beautiful. I made the mistake of not trying these styles on before ordering and realized it didn’t fit my personality or lifestyle at all. I exchanged my double halo for a oval bezel set ring and it fits me better 🙂 Please order from Berricle or Two Birch Jewelers first and wear the style you like around for a few weeks to make sure you really love it before you commit! Good luck ! I added a picture for you for a visual!

p.s. Some of the pave diamonds did fall out of the setting with minimal wear, and it worried me for how long the ring would hold up in the future! 😉

    Mine is super similar!

Rose gold double halo, 1 ct oval center stone, L color (I’m getting the stone changed soon, hopefully, to something more brown instead of yellow)

but I ADORE my ring. I’ve gotten so many compliments. It’s just perfect <3

mrskirk:  wow, your ring is gorgeous! I’ve been looking at double halo ovals and everyone I look at has a split shank, may I ask what designer it is and specs?
