I’ve been doing a lot of online shopping for wedding dresses lately for dresses with sleeves. You see, I used to weigh 381 lbs and after losing a bunch of weight (to appx. a size 14/16), I have major “batwing” issues for my arms, so for me to feel comfortable and confident, I’ve decided to go with a more modest style. I love many of the dresses that Bonny Bridal makes, and this one in particular caught my eye:
What do you guys think? I’m planning for a wedding in Las Vegas, probably at the chapel at the MGM Grand, followed by a reception in a party room at one of the restaurants there. Even though I’m having a destination wedding, I’m still wanting a more classic wedding dress with a train. 🙂
The other hitch is that my wedding isn’t for 3 years, but I told myself if they decide to discontinue the style before I was planning on actually purchasing a dress, that I’d go ahead and order it, even if I’m planning on losing lots more weight (and have no reason to believe that will not happen). Any Bees have experience sizing down a dress that has a higher neckline and sleeves? I’m not sure if that makes a huge difference or not. I’ve heard of strapless gowns being sized down 3-4 sizes sometimes, but haven’t come across too many that have so much going on at the shoulders and neckline.
Thanks for any advice or input you can give me!

It’s beautiful and the wedding isn’t for another 3 years…. I wouldn’t buy it now, you never know what size you’ll be in 3 years and alterations may not work if the dress is too small or way too big, depending on the size you choose now.
but if you are afraid they’ll discontinue the style, maybe you can save the money and have it custom made at that time. Take as many pictures as you can of the detailing , front, back, sides etc…

I wasn’t planning on necessarily buying the dress now, unless today they announce on their blog that it’s being discontinued, but if, say, it gets discontinued at some point later this year, I was strongly considering it… Haha.
The dress from House of Brides, which is where I’d most likely be ordering from since there are no authorized bridal shops anywhere near me, is only $778, so I figure if I end up having to cut my losses and buy another dress, I’m willing to eat that money and hopefully be able to resell this dress to someone else to get back some of the money, since it’ll be brand new without having alterations done to it.
By the way, if anyone has any pictures of more modest wedding dresses, Bonny dresses, or dresses with sleeves, please post them! It’s nice to be able to compare the stock model pictures to real brides and how they look. Also, if anyone has any comments to make on the quality of Bonny dresses, I’d love to hear them!

I think it looks much prettier to have your collar bone and a little of your chest exposed (especially if you’re looking to cover just your arms, and it’s not due to religious modestly) so I’d go for a standard gown, and add an off the shoulder bolero like this one to cover your arms from the bottom of the shoulder to the elbow

I think it’s beautiful and classic, congratulations on the weight loss!

I do think this dress is really pretty, but I agree with @MissNoodles that showing a little more collarbone might look even better. If I were you, I’d hold off on buying this one right away and keep looking, since you’ve got time.
