Exciting! Does the kitchen area feel big, too? Is there enough counter space? Also, is there a closet or anything near the entryway? What will you guys do with your coats and shoes?

I love it, its very similar to our current layout….The only thing I don’t like is walking into stairs, but if that doesn’t bother you, then its perfect….The laundry being upstairs is a major plus!!!! Why my laundry room is downstairs and all my bedrooms are upstairs with plenty of room for laundry, I will never know!

I loved homes without the formal dining room, such a waste of space to us.  The lay out inside looks nice, the only down side to how this looks imo, is the garage taking up so much space up front.

@pinkshoes:  I find the garage comment so odd (I have seen it a few times on here) because many houses around here have the garage out front like this. I don’t even think twice about it! Most have the garage in front with bedrooms on top or garage to the side (older builds/bungalows)

OP, I like it but I am not a fan of walking in and the stairs are right there. How big is that entry? Will people have enough space to walk in and move around once they’re in or will the door and stair get in the way (like when you have a bunch of people at the door and they’re all coming/going).

I dislike the garage being front and center. It’s such a weird architectural trend. I just don’t understand it.

I also think that the kitchen counter space is very lacking for a house this size.

Aside from that, the layout looks great. I like the open plan.

@cant.wait.to.be.mrs.d:  Haha! This is so weird to me! I guess the garage out front is not so common there as it is here in Canada? I mean I have seen the side entry garages (I work in real estate, so I have seen everything there is to see around here) but they are really not at all common.

@cant.wait.to.be.mrs.d:  I had never even thought about the turning part, I guess the ones that I have seen here have bigger lots and the house is shaped more like the letter P (if that make sense)where the garage is the stem part of the P. Builders here really try to give you the smallest lots possible so that is why the front garage is so common, it takes up the least amount of space!

Oh and that’s a nice wide hallway!! Lucky!

@Ms. Martian:  It’s not very common at all up in the north east.  I definitely see it a lot more on houses in the south.   We had more colonial and ranches where I’m from.

@cant.wait.to.be.mrs.d:  I love that!

Oh that front entry picture looks so nice! Do you have more pictures???

All the houses I’ve grown up with either have the garage in front like that or they have a detached garage in the back (older houses tend to have that). I grew up living in the bedroom above the garage, and my siblings hate sleeping in there because the garage opening or closing wakes them up! But I was never bothered by that, I guess I got used to it since I lived there since I was two years old.

Houses without a garage in the front look weird to me. I always wonder if I’m looking at the back of the house or something, lol.
