I like the family and baby portraits a lot more than the wedding ones.  The wedding pics were just kind of blah to me.

The baby photos are great!  The wedding photos are lackluster and seem a bit awkward.

What’s the price that she’s asking? Kind of hard to say yay or nay without a price to compare it to.

I think she is okay. Her pictures dont WOW me but I dont think all wedding pictures have to. I think she has some great shots that capture emotion well but others do seem a little awkward/forced. Maybe you could meet with her and show her pictures that you are really striving for to see what else she can do? It seems like she hasnt done that many weddings. Also – you can find someone for a good price that will have what you like, you just need to search REALLY hard. OR you should talk to other photographers who are more expensive to see if you can work something out with them. Our photographer was more expensive than we paid but we talked to him and worked out a deal that we could afford.

I don’t want to sound like a Debbie Downer but I dont love the wedding pictures. The baby ones are super cute but the wedding ones didn’t really do much for me. On the other hand, I have seen MUCH worse so depending on how much they’re charging, it could be worth it. I’m really just basing my opinion off of what we are looking for, for our wedding. We’re more fond of the photojournalism feel over standard photography. If you are happy with the pictures then go for it. We aren’t the ones who will be looking at them for the rest of our lives. 🙂

I don’t think you can always blame the photographer for awkward poses. Sometimes photos depend on the people you’re working with- if people don’t like being in front of the camera it’s really hard to get good shots regardless of how good you are. We paid our photographer quite a bit for six hours and while her other work is amazing, our photos were just okay. Was it her fault? No, I don’t like having my photo taken- I look awkward and uncomfortable in most pictures because that’s how I felt.

As a photographer, I can tell you that she is most definitely gifted in child portraits.  But she is lacking a lot of skill in the wedding department.  Her crops are WAY too tight, her editing is lackluster and she isn’t capturing emotion the way that every photo she exhibits, especially on her portfolio, should.

I can see dandruff in one bride’s hair……or are those crystals?

Some of her wedding photos are quite nice! I agree with @KateByDesign – many of her crops are very tight, so it’s a somewhat narrow perspective.  But that’s kind of her strength. Her talents seem to lie in portraits and detailed shots – and the wider perspective pictures are not as good. @PitBulLover brings up a good point – you can always discuss with her which photos of hers you liked and which ones you didn’t so she knows what kind of shots you’re looking for.

They are ok!  Photographers are so expensive, it is difficult to locate one that is under $1000 and still does a great job.  From what I have seen, you really get what you pay for with photographer.

For $700, that’s pretty good. For that price point, i’d be expecting low-quality fuzzy lenses and seriously bad lighting. She has some strengths, and the photos aren’t terrible. It’s not as artsy as I wanted, by we sacrificed a lot of our budget for our photographer. If that’s the best person in your price range, you should go for it!

I know where you are with your budget, and I understand that at some point everyone has to be happy with what they can afford.  So, I took a look once I saw where you are in price point.  I think I would book her, especially if she’s the best option you have for your budget.  Just make sure that you are getting a package that is budget in the long run as well (a CD with printing rights for you).

One big concern is always how are the low-light photos… so ask to see some galleries where the locations were dimly lit, just to be sure you are comfortable with her abilities.  However, if you are all outdoors, then go for it!  When you look at galleries, pay close attention to how she covers the ceremony.  She won’t likely be able to change her methods for you too much so if it’s not what you are looking for, talk to her about what you want and see how she responds.

After you book her, stay off of the pricey photographer’s blogs and websites 🙂  You can’t have that so you might as well not torture yourself if that’s what you REALLY want.

Also.. I learned all this through trial-and-error (lots of error).. and there are a few pro-photographers who post on the site who could offer really good opinions as well.. they would be better than my uninformed two cents.
