Will Ferrell. That’s all I can think of, and I can’t stand the guy so I had to vote no….Dega is a cute short name though!

I wouldn’t use it. I think people could easily misinterpret it as “dago,” an ethnic slur used against Italians. Because “Dega” isn’t a common or familiar name, people will probably go “huh?” and try to disambiguate by interpreting it as the closest thing they can think of … which, if they know the word (it’s kind of old-fashioned), is likely to be “dago.”

What about making the nickname “Talla” instead? Since it’s the beginning rather than the end of the word, the association will be clearer, and “Talla” could be a cute puppy nickname, especially for a female.

Hmm Dega is a little odd, but Talladega is interesting. Perhaps Tally or Talla?
Growing up, I had a samoyed named Sabaka (like chewbacca with an s), but we didn’t name him, haha.

Are you going to show him?  I can’t think of a reason why the “official” name should be Talladega if you know you’ll call it Dega.  Just call it deca and drop the talla.

@KCKnd2:  I’ve never heard of that before. Not saying you’re wrong, just… it’s not that well known.

    I think Dega is cute.

I voted yes because its a super cute name but living in Alabama now, Talladega evokes more of a nascar, dirt, mutt, beer type of feeling and that dog is a pretty one!

If it was me, I’d name him Sir Charles and call him Char or Charbroiled for short.  Thats also a reason why I’m not allowed to name anything without Darling Husband present.  Our dogs (who were going to be named Biscoti and Flotsum or Jetsum) are named Cooper and Roxy.  Damn, DHs veto power on names!

Talley would be my nickname of choice but either way, he’ll be happy with a loving family.

I like Dega. The best thing about naming pets is it doesn’t have to be a “normal” name, you can name it anything you want! I also agree that Talla sounds very feminine. Dega sounds masculine and very dog-like to me. 🙂

What about the nickname “Tallar” or for a boy dog?

I’d pick a name like Winston, or Bertrand. Something distinguished for a gentleman dog.
