Swimstuff :  I definitely think it depends on where the prongs end up. If they are off to the side like this, then you dont get that marquise effect. Here’s a side-by-side comparison of the tulip setting in both the 6 and the 4 prong. I used the Stuller website to get these, style # 123416 & 123226. (they’re not identical, but very close) in case you want to pop over there and check them out yourself. I’m not afiliated with Stuller, just found it super helpful when selecting my own ring!

I think you will be just fine with 6 dainty prongs on a .6. It does keep the stone more secure. On a four prong if one becomes loosened or damage you are more likely to lose the stone. Personally, like the look of a 6 prong more than a 4.

I love it so much! I have an oval in a flower setting. This picture is from the website. I would definetly go with 6 prongs. The only thing I don’t like about my oval is that the four prongs makes it look like it’s emerald cut.

Swimstuff :  Oh wow I love the cathedral/basket hybrid thing going on with this setting. It also looks floral which is really beautiful as well. Good choice for a solitaire!

ETA: Kind of agreethat 4 prongs would flatter an oval more though.

Swimstuff : Sure thing, my ring size is 5 and the rings it self is 2.5 carat equivalent moonstone.

Swimstuff :  I have a 6 prong setting on a round .075 diamond and they in now way smother the diamond.

Swimstuff : Sure! Sorry it’s been awhile since I’ve logged on. My ring is a little different than the setting you are going for as I have a halo but I hope it still helps! I have a .8 ct oval center and am a 5.5 ring size! Also I thought I’d mention that I’m pretty rough on my ring, I am a vet tech and wear it to work and hit it on stuff a lot lol but my four prongs still hold strong and I haven’t had any issues!
