@Creiddylad:  I think it’s kind of a strange adjective to use- it would probably annoy me slightly.

I think they mean it is cute. It is great to see how many people think so little of their friends, acquaintances and family.

Just waiting for the comments on how it means someone is jealous.

I think that it depends on the way someone says it. Some people don’t mean any harm. Others are just being funny. One way or another, I know that my ring is on the smaller side and I’m perfectly fine with that. ๐Ÿ™‚

No one has ever called my ring cute but if they did I can’t imagine I would care. I called a coworker’s ring cute once, there was no ill intent behind the word, I genuinely liked her ring and it was the first positive compliment that came to mind. Sometimes cute just means cute.

I have never been able to relate to the objection most women have to being called cute. People generally mean it as a good thing, so I can’t be bothered by semantics. Lots of people have described my ring as “cute”, “dainty”, and “delicate”, and I totally agree, because it is!  Wink

I think it means someone thinks your ring is cute. Sometimes I believe women just look for reasons to be upset/offended.

You also basically made a dig at this girl being perpetually single. You’re kind of doing the exact same thing you think she’s doing, just not to her face.

If you love your ring, that’s all that matters.

I think that the person is trying to compliment me but has the vocabulary of a grade schooler. Unless it’s blantantly obvious it is a backhanded compliment, I don’t take strangers opinions personally. And in the case of my engagement ring or really anything wedding related, Darling Husband and I did what we wanted while being good hosts. If it wasn’t up to your standards, I wouldn’t have cared if you’d shown yourself out.

Too many other truly offensive things offend me. I refuse to summon the energy to be offended over the adjective used to describe my ring. I love it so that’s all that matters.

@Creiddylad:  I have a bezel set too, and, while no one has said anything about it, I think it’s cute, so if someone else said that, I probably wouldn’t care. In fact, I’d likely agree.

My cousin said my ring was cute, but she’s really young and I don’t think she even knows the negativity that some people associate with that description. I didn’t get offended.

My sister-in-law made some dig at my ring when I first got engaged. I don’t remember exactly what she said because I just brushed it off, but it was one of those veiled insults.

Well, guess who is now bothering my brother to buy her a new wedding ring that looks exactly like mine? Yup, my sister-in-law. I guess she didn’t think it looked too bad afterall. ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m not even engaged yet and I already know people will call my dream 1/3 ct princess cut ring “cute” – because people call everything about me cute, my own person included! ๐Ÿ™‚ When people describe me they actually begin by saying I’m “cute” and the same description almost always applies to my hairstyles, my outfits, my shoes, everything. I like small, dainty and very girly things (like polka dots, bows and delicate jewelry) so “cute” is quite unavoidable. I’m also small and look younger than my age, like rachelmichelle, even though I’m 29, not 22 ๐Ÿ™‚ I don’t find “cute” insulting at all, I actually consider it a compliment. Unless of course someone says it in a really snarky way and it’s quite obvious that it’s a badly veiled insult – but there’s no winning with some people.

Did  you show it to her or did she ask to see it? If you just showed it, meh . If she asked I find her comment a little more rude.

I associate the word “cute” with something that is small and eye pleasing. I don’t think it’s an insult but that’s my opinion.

@j_jaye:  Thank you for this! People are SO fricking sensitive sometimes. I have recently called a ring cute and meant it in a genuinely complimentary way! It was super pretty and suited her perfectly, and she is a tiny girl and very sweet, and somehow that’s the word that came out… Apparently some of the people on here would have become physically violent with me?!?!

Het a grip! If someone says “oh Jesus, that’s god-awful” then sure, take offense.

My FRIEND, by the way, said “thanks! I love it! :D” and that was that.
