@j_jaye: Wow, sarcastic. Goodness gracious, I’m not saying it was a huge deal or anything. I was just asking if others got annoyed if it was said to them. I don’t like the cute word, that’s all. @KhaleesiStormborn: And yes, some people are more sensitive than others to wording. see above.

To me, it’s a nice way of saying, ” I don’t like that at all.”

@Creiddylad: I totally get what you’re saying and I have had a few people exclaim “how cute!” when they see my ring but I assume it’s because of the heart details so I can’t really complain about that … 😉 I deserve that comment for choosing hearts at 30 years old (and I love em!) 🙂

@Creiddylad: I made the “cute” comment regarding someones teeny grey diamond chip set in a larger illusion setting ring once. Honestly it was hideous and cheap looking. I thought it a fairly innocuous word, to say anything else would have sounded disengeuous and been ludicrous given the ring.
I am not saying your ring is hideous or cheap looking at all. It doesn’t look inordinately small to me and looks quite nice! Do you think she realized it is a simulant and thus was dismissing it or could she have simply been being genuine that it is pretty?
Who knows? I would take it at face value and I wouldn’t give it much more thought though!

I would only use “cute” to describe a ring if it were heart-shaped! Otherwise, I agree! It sounds snarky!

@Creiddylad: I haven’t had anyone say “cute” about mine, but if I did I probably would not assume it was meant in a negative way. I know people who use cute when they want to say delicate, dainty etc.. I have a cousin who uses cute for everything, she means it in a positive way so if she said it it would mean beautiful, nice, lovely etc..

I love your ring, mine is similar. Fiance chose it based on drawings I did and while people think its small compared to what everyone thinks an engagement ring should be, its perfect for me and i love it. Ive had someone say they didnt notice it coz it was small and it didnt bother me, any bigger of a ring and it would be broken in no time as im always bashing my hands on things. If you love the ring and its special to you thats all that matters. Screw the jealous haters

Heres mine. Dont know how to make that smaller, sorry

I don’t care and I wouldn’t find it insulting.

@Creiddylad: I do think you’re overreacting a bit. She said it was “very pretty” and “cute” so I think she was just trying to compliment you!
No one has called my ring cute that I can remember, but I wouldn’t take offense.

I think it sounds rude. Unless it has “cutesy” details like hearts/bows/whatever else then I think it’s their way of saying it looks small or immature.

I don’t think anything. I say cute all the time and I mean it in the best of ways so I guess when I hear it I don’t think it’s a bad way to describe something. If I see a house, a car, an outfit, a ring and I really like it I say “omg that is SO CUTE!”

My Dad said my ring was cute and I wasn’t very happy – but I expected nothing less really as he doesn’t really show much interest in anything!

@jenilynevette: This. I’d much prefer to hear “your ring is so cute” than no effort at all to be nice.

I think it all really depends on their tone of voice when saying it. You know if they are being genuine or not by the way they say it.
