We are upgrading to a new set. We approved the wax model at the jeweler today. He said the next step is to cast it and we agreed to meet next week. Does that mean it is another mock-up or will I get to see the real thing? Thanks in advance, bees!

@bnamrs4evr: Casting basically means that he’ll make the final product. Approving the wax model is the final step before it’s made

Casting means he will pour molten metal (gold, silver, etc) to replicate the wax version of the ring. Depending on the metal used, he may include a flux such as borax to prevent impurities (oxides) from forming on the metal during the smelting process. He’ll then file and polish this cast to remove any surface imperfections, and will (if it will have stones) set stone(s) in it.

Thank you! I had no idea that’s what he meant. Now I am excited and nervous all at once!
