my Fiance has called her by her first name since the beginning, and he calls my dad “sir” 75% of the time (which is freaking hilarious). i plan to call my FI’s parents by their first names. i can’t call them “mom” and “dad”. it’s too weird for me (even though i know my Future Mother-In-Law would love me to call her mom).

He calls my parents by their names. I think it would be weird for him to call my mother mom. I certainly am not going to be calling his parents mom & dad.

@ajillity81:  Fiance calls my parents by first names… I call FI’s mom both mom and her first name, and I am too afraid to call FI’s dad by his first name, i don’t know why it just seems weird, but I don’t call him dad either, so I just avoid saying his name… yeah it’s weird…

He calls her CJ – which are her initials.  It’s kind of a nickname I gave her that stuck.. 🙂

I like the idea of using first names. As far as I know, my parents called their in laws by first name (my g-parents all passed away when I was younger, so I don’t totally remember). But…and I really hope I’m wrong, but I think I remember SO telling me his parents call their in laws “Mrs” and “Mr” !! What’s up with that?? I know his mom isn’t totally in love with his dad’s family (not sure why, they seem to be nice people), so maybe that’s what happened? Obviously around the kids they say “grandpa” and “grandma”….but the whole thing seems really weird to me!

I’m hoping we can just do the first name thing!

He calls her Mama *last name*. It’s kind of cute to hear him say. I just call his parents by their first names, but he is much closer to my family than I am his.

@pineapplez17:  It is weird but my parents called their in laws Mr and Mrs last name, and they were super close. I think it is because my parents met when they were 8 (lived on the same block), so of course when they met their future inlaws they were children. It makes sense that they called them Mr. and Mrs, but it never changed even after my parents had me and got married. All of my grandparents are gone save one. It is almost 45 years since my parents met my grandparents, my grandmother lives with my parents and my mother is still calling her Mrs *last name*. People always ask about it because my family is so close, and Mrs is so formal. My mother thinks of my paternal grandmother as another mother, but she still adresses her the same way she did when she was an 8 year old, pigtailed little girl.

Ever since we were dating, he always called her, “Momma,” but I would NEVER call his mother that. I only use her first name. I guess it’s just a matter of how comfortable everyone is with each other.

We use first names, but I could see myself calling his mom “Mom” at some point, after years of marriage. I have called her “Mom” jokingly to get her attention though. She didn’t even notice..

He just calls her “Mrs. _________.” Same with me, I call his mom “Mrs. __________.”

I’m actually struggling with what I’m going to call Future Mother-In-Law after the wedding. I was kinda leaning towards “Mom,” but that’s already taken, since I have an Aunt I call “Mom.”

She wants me to call her by her first name (I don’t think I’d ever do that), or “Mrs. D” instead of her full last name. Both sound weird to me.
