I’ve had it a few times but only in a ground meat type dish, my aunt & uncle live in Alaska part of the year. My uncle says moose meat is so lean they mix it with something else fattier to cook it. Tasted like beef to me
Slightly dry beef. It might be a little gamey if you’ve never eaten wild game but if it’s cooked well, it is much better than the beef you buy at the grocery store. A lot more flavor and much better for you because it’s leaner (even when the butchers add fat.)
If you’re lucky he will prepare the backstrap which is the filet mignon of the animal. I cut it into medalions, drag it through stoneground mustard then breadcrumbs, and lightly fry it before serving.
I also do venison jalapeno poppers that are to die for. Even the people who don’t like gamey meat like it because it’s marinated overnight in Italian or Greek dressing.
@beachbride1216: Aw thank you for the tips yea he got the butcher to prepare it so Im anxious to sort of try it out lol
Delicious 🙂 I don’t find it gamey at all, much less so than deer. I think it tastes like beef with a bit more natural spice. If you ground it up and made a dish with it like spaghetti sauce though, I doubt you’d even notice a difference.
As much as I love moose, I hope to be able to try it/answer this question someday. 😛 hahaha. I’ve also heard its really very lean tasting but good.
pretty tasty, quite similar to beef and you can prepare it in the same ways as beef
