RUSTIC – outside, country, woods, nature.

Country, barns, burlap, wildflowers, lots of DIY, mis matched chairs, mason jars, hanging fairy lights, a laid back, non pretentious feel that doesn’t feel too “weddingy.” Hope this helps πŸ™‚

I would describe it as having a “country feel.” I think of nature, woods, simple, earth tones or neutrals, etc.

@ohulani:  I think you hit the nail on the head! You know what rustic means, I don’t know why your bridal consultant doesn’t know the meaning of that word… since it’s pretty important to her job! She has to find dresses based on the theme of the wedding…. rustic, romantic, casual, punk, gothic, she has to know the meaning of these words or she shouldn’t be a consultant if she doesnt’t know how to sell her products (ie: dresses) properly.

@ohulani:  Well, after this weekend I can add pictures! My wedding is tomorrow and it is ‘rustic’ themed!

So for me that means that

  • I am getting maried in a camp
  • My centerpieces are using mason jars and wood pieces (like actual logs)
  • We are having a bonfire at the end
  • My favors are s’mores on a stick
  • We are actually having real s’mores at the bonfire

Wait, a bridal consultant didn’t know the meaning of one of the most sought after wedding themes…ever?

Well, to answer your question, rustic to me means:

log cabin

country setting (like farms and barns and wooden fences and bails of hay)

mason jars

wildflowers

burlap, gingham, and lace decor

soft, romantic colors tied in with masculine ones (blush pink with a blue maybe)

cowboy boots

out door wedding

bug spray. *hee hee!*

Is this bridal salon located…on Mars??

Hopefully she was trying to figure out what rustic means to you. Like, to get more details about your vision.  Cause if this is really a brand new concept to her, then I’m going to have to assume that she is, in fact, a Martian.

Well, it seems terms like “rustic” can mean something a little different to each person.  She was probably trying to get a feel of what it exactly means to you. πŸ™‚

Like, I’ve called our theme “modern-rustic”.  I’m not even sure such a thing exists…lol.  But for me it means we’re getting married in a hotel ballroom in the city, but I’m trying to incorporate an outdoor fall theme into it by including pumpkins, floating twigs in water with floating candle, lanterns, twine, lots of candles & lights on a string, and lots of DIY.

Your wedding sounds like it will be beautiful…and very rustic. πŸ™‚

@Eglantine:  Haha!

I agree, maybe she’s just trying to feel you out. It seems like “rustic” is a big buzz word lately, but not a lot of people are really having outdoor, country weddings.

When I hear rustic I think outside, possibly a barn, fields, wood related centerpieces, wildflowers, and picnic tables.
