I have an interview this week but it’s an assessment day with 30 other people and the day will consist of group activities, team-building, roleplaying and an informal interview. It says “smart casual” for the dress code. What does that actually mean for a woman? I have an interview dress that is definitely smart and I have loads of casual but I’m not sure what I have that could be considered smart casual.
All suggestions would be great!!

Penciil skirt with nice polo shirt and pumps, tailored jackets with khaki capri pants, wrap dresses, stuff like that. You just want to look well put together without looking like a full on CEO.

I would err on the side of more professional. Don’t wear a suit, but it would be good to include one traditional-type element. For example, a vest with a fun or colorful blouse underneath. A shirtdress, instead of a skirt suit. A jacket with non-matching bottoms.
No jeans.

But I don’t have any of those things. It’s so frustrating when I do have smart and I do have casual but I don’t have jackets, shirtdresses (what does that mean?), wrap dresses or anything. I have a pencil skirt. But not exactly casual. Hmm.

Wear your pencil skirt with a button down shirt and bring a cardigan. Not sky-high pumps, just something comfy.
Alternatively, if you have a plain black dress made of stretchy material, weare that, a cardigan, and flats. Something like this:

@VickyAurea: There are plenty of other options, those were just some suggestions to give you a visual.
If all else fails just wear some nice pants and a button down and some cute accessories.

I don’t have any advice, but I’m in the same boat. I have super dressy, and I have casual; none of them can be mixed together successfully. :/

@VickyAurea: maybe your interview dress with ballet flats or low pumps and a cardigan?

I don’t have a button-down shirt. And I don’t really have cardigans. Only jumpers.

@VickyAurea: You could wear a jumper (which I think is like a sweater)?? with some cute cropped black pants and pumps or flats.

Try a pants suit with flats. Your top could be a dressy knit or a short-sleeve sweater. You could put your pencil skirt with a belted tunic/sweater.

Well if you really don’t think you have anything maybe you’ll have to go shopping. You can put together a really cute Target outfit for about 30 bucks.

Maybe you could try on a few things that you think might be possibilities and post them for us. We can tell you if we think they’re “smart casual” or not.

I would think “smart casual” probably means business casual, something business-y but short of a suit. So nice pants and nice sweater or blouse, skirt + shirt/sweater, but not a suit.
Judging from that description (group activities) it may be easiest to wear pants/flats in case there is any sitting on the group or standing around all day doing activities.
