    We did cupcakes. We have 4 flavored: cherry coke (this was our favorite!), cookies & cream, mint chocolate chip, and the lebowski (kahula & Vodka). Our cutting cake was just a simple chocolate with vanilla buttercream.

    We kept it simple with a french vanilla cake with rasberry filling. It was iced with white fondant. It was a three tier cake. At the base od each tier was a green ribbon matching the colour of the Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses, and there were some hand made candy dasies for decoration as well.

    We’re going simple – chocolate cake, raspberry filling, vanilla buttercream. We figure it will be a crowd pleaser, which is why we avoided the crazier flavors. I think we’re doing three tiers with a pink ombre but we haven’t nailed down everything with the baker yet.

    We went with two flavors, black forest and strawberry cream both with white chocolate cream cheese frosting.  Everyone seemed to love it, and quite a few had more then one slice it was really good!

    We had 3 tiers! The bottom tier was vanilla with vanilla frosting layers and a fondant wrapping; the middle was red velvet with cream cheese frosting layers and raindbow buttercream; and the third was chocolate with chocolate frosting (DH’s pick) and edible glitter!

    We had five teirs – the top two were fake but we had two more cutting cakes in the kitchen. We had so much as we had cake as the main part of our dessert. We chose three flavours – raspberry, white chocolate and macadamia nut, neopolitan and lemon and lime – it was delicious and I froze the left over cake!

    We had several flavors of cheesecake on different level cake stands decorated with greenery.  I’m not a huge fan of cake anyway plus when I  got the quote for the wedding cake I was interested in  and saw how much it was I was so over spending money that I just went to a local bakery and picked up 5 or 6 cheesecakes for $125.  My wedding was pretty small though, 75 people.

     But, that marriage ended in divorce. For my next wedding I’m not sure what I’m gonna do. Probably some sort of dessert table. We are talking about having a backyard wedding with maybe 20-25 people .

    starlightgirl :  Ours was huge. it was 3 tiers but even the top that we brought home after the wedding it weighed a ton and on our anniversary we invited our parents and our friends that live across the street to eat it with us and we still had half the cake left over. We had a 3 tier cake and it was LARGE and we had sheet cake of the same kind so that there would be enough for all of our 225 guests. Our venue includes a cake as well as sheet cake but we had to pay extra/ the difference for the fillings we wanted as well as the design as they were considered upgrades and it was soooo worth it because I’m not really a cake lover so I wanted something different and fresh. In addition to that we had a dessert table and 1 other plated dessert (guests could choose between 3 from the menu).

    We did have fondant on the outside just because the design I wanted required it, but the inside was vanilla bean cake with fresh mixed berries and chantilly cream. It was delicious.

    We had lemon cake with raspberry filling and vanilla buttercream.  It was delicious.  Our 3-tier decorated cake was fake (all white with white frosting flowers) except for one wedge for cutting, and the guests were served from cake they had in the back.

    samira86 :  My thoughts exactly. I refuse to spend money on a cake that people won’t eat. A friend of mine had carrot cake & red velvet for her wedding. You’d think these flavors are not super crazy and are actually quite common, right? Wrong. About 1/3 of the cake were just left out on the table untouched. I told her prior from my experience, people tend to either love or hate both carrot and red velvet cake but of course, it was her wedding.
