hssweethearts2013 :  We’re having Vanilla Sponge, Fruit Cake and Chocolate Sponge.

Fruit cake is traditional in the UK, but not everyone likes it so we though vanilla would be good. Then I ordered a chocolate cake from the baker and it was amazing, so we’ve asked for a tier of that too lmao

We just had our tasting last week.  (So many yummy options!) We chose vanilla bean cake with matching buttercream.

Our tiered cake will be yellow cake with fresh blueberries and lemon icing as a filling, and vanilla frosting on the outside. Then we’re also getting a chocolate sheek cake with peanut butter fudge filling and chocolate frosting. Both were SO DELICIOUS I can’t wait!!

We’re getting married in Mexico so – Tres Leche! And my Scottish gran is making a wee fruitcake for us so that I have a piece of family tradition.

snookpower :  thank you! It was definitely a more ambitious endeavor than I expected at first, but I did two trial cakes before the real one which helped me to get a lot of mistakes out of the way early. My cake definitely matured through the process! My test cakes were definitely not wedding-quality (although granted I did rush them both a bit since I knew it wasn’t the real deal):

Ours is going to be white chocolate cake with lemon buttercream filling, frosted in vanilla buttercream. So excited about it!

We did three separate cakes, rather than tiers. One was dark chocolate with nutella filling and a dark chocolate ganache. One was red velvet with cream cheese filling and white chocolate ganache. And the smallest that we kept for us was a lemon cake with toasted coconut filling and a powered sugar icing.

They were all delish!

No crazy flavors here but I’m super excited! Our cake will look like this (except lavender flowers). Bottom layer is French vanilla, middle is strawberry (FI’s fav) and top is lemon (my fav).
